Corelli usa fiato e maschera con gran maestria. Quando lui dice di non mettere in maschera, si riferisce a non usare artefatti ma di far convogliare il fiato nelle giuste risonanze senza forzature o spinte. Basta ascoltarlo per capirlo.

If Corelli is not qualified to teach this aria what background or credential you acquired to judge Corelli? Corelli's voice does not fit well with Donizetti it's not because he couldn't sing them. He has covered verismo composers Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana and covered heroic roles of Puccini's and Verdi's as well and Bellini's Norma with Callas as a counterpart. A singer knows best what he can and what he can't , not his fans who confuse Leoncavallo and Mascagni with Donizetti .Bel canto roles are much more demanding that verismo . In verismo a la 20th century ,if you couldn't better , you came away with roaring and sobbing , that was good enough ,at least for a part of the audience .Anyone who knows the Norma score also knows what shortcuts he had to take in order to be able to "sing" Pollione . Yes, never sing in the nose. But nose is not the mask. The mask are the cavities behind the cheekbones , next to the nose and above i.e.forehead.
