The really weird thing about the villains is that Taito officially calls three of them Lex Luthor, Parasite and Metallo. I could almost buy the Metallo one. Luthor just seems to be a random alien???? The next boss after "Luthor," is purple and green and has an elephant head. With a few tweaks he could have been Luthor in his super suit from the old comics and cartoons. I wonder if Taito already had these villain sprites created for a different game and then slapped Superman in it. Regardless, I loved this one back in the day. It would be really cool if someone made a ROM hack and changed the sprites into recognizable Superman villains. They could make player 2 Captain Marvel/Shazam while they were at it.

I'm thinking that this was a different game before they got the Superman license, too. That would be awesome if someone made a ROM hack...this would be perfect :D

smh, used to play this at the Circle K... they had this and Ikari Warriors.. sucked at both games. graphics were pretty awesome for the time

This Superman game is not that bad it looks good, and gameplay is quite simple. It's definitely not like the other Superman games I have seen.😮🎉😅

I remember playing this arcade game back in day. Loved the graphics and the music. But I must admit that the game itself was too repetitive level after level.

@@artgutierrez6568 playing through it again as an adult (and seasoned gamer), you can easily see how simple and repetitious the game is. It's mindless fun that's best enjoyed maybe a couple times a year😊

The gameplay looks very “arcade cheap.” But, the BGM does a banger of a job emulating Danny Elfman’s classic score.

@rvcklvss not saying the arcade is terrible but they could have did a way better job on this because all they did was make the game sloppy and took the pictures from the movie and put it in the game like it will work voices are placed so random it doesn't make any sense

@@damin9913 it feels like it was thrown together rather quickly to capitalize on the movie. The game, while it looks and sounds nice, is incredibly sloppy and unfairly cheap

This game was out in arcades the same year CBS ran one season of a new Superman cartoon for Saturday mornings produced by Ruby Spears in 1988. Both the show and game had been forgotten up until this point. I remember playing this at my local Ice Skating rink arcade.

Nothing's funnier to me than Superman collecting diamonds while having the power to dropkick a planet in half but using empty trashcans as dodgeballs to tag streams of guys on a street.
