When my motor is at TDC, my rotor faces #3 and the small half moon is facing the driver's side instead of the crank pulley. My wires are in the same order as stock. I have a very rough cold idle, but once warm, is good. The engine seems to run fine. Any ideas on what to do to get the distributor shaft half Moon facing the crank pulley and have the rotor facing the notch on the distributor cup which is pointing to cylinder number 1? Great informative video!!!

Not all distributors will be in the same position on all Type 1 engines. Could you send some pictures to [email protected], so we can look into your question in detail?

Really nice! But VW manual recommends 0.10, not 0.15. Why do you adjust with this measure? Thanks!!!
@paruzzi-english4 ай бұрын
The original VW manuals mention 0,10 valve clearance, but VW changed that setting to 0,15 mm later on because they ran into problems with 0,10 mm. 0,15 mm is more clearance, and so more save, with not too much lost of power. For VW at the time, reliability was more important than performance as they had to give warranty on their engines. If you look at late 60's and 70's manuals, they will all mention 0,15 mm clearance. Go for 0,15 mm for sure.

You can put a small dab of bearing grease on the bearing inside the glandnut after torqing, but not much!

That is correct. We mention this when we show how to assemble the clutch, this is the timestamped link kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXTPequoos1jntk . Thanks for adding value to our video's, we appreciate.

I know, maybe there should a KZbin especially made for unprepared publishers ;-) We work on these videos as a team, my colleague has 50+ years experience in VW's, the prep days with him in the workplace are like a gift for me and I try to share that with you all. My other friends/colleagues at Paruzzi all have 20-30 years experience, so, the best fact-checkers in the air-cooled world. Thanks again for your great input.

How many crank seal we put for vw beetle?
@paruzzi-english Жыл бұрын
On VW Type 1 there is one crank seal. But, watch out, some flywheels (later types) have an O-ring in the flywheel, that also seals the crank. Older types have an additional paper seal. Watch the flywheel overhaul video for more information: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnvci6h_ppKqe9Usi=WGQlfwn8_RsDnVxy

When preparing to do my first (by myself, not letting shop do it) valve adjustment, I discovered my distributor to be 180 off... as it has run fine for all these years, I'm not going to risk this surgery. Great info, though, and was extremely interesting to watch. Thank you for posting this video, it was quite educational.
@paruzzi-english Жыл бұрын
In some cases, adjusting the ignition is not possible, because the distributor will be blocked by the fuel pump, rotating to the correct pre-ignition is impossible, in some cases, you get lucky, and you can adjust even with distributor 180° off. So, you were one of the lucky people. Rotating it just for the aesthetic is not a good idea, too many risks to damage parts, just for the view. So, if it runs, don't touch. Thanks for watching. I did manage to get my distributor in 180 out. Couldn’t get it to run. Was pulling my hair out My Dad walks up pulls the distributor out turns it, puts it back in and car fires right out. I was but happy and angry at the same time.

Crap I forgot to put the little spring in. It ran fine then I found the spring on my parts tray. What exactly is it for and is it nessarry?
@paruzzi-english Жыл бұрын
The spring will keep the drive shaft under tension, between the distributor and the rings below. Possible lots of rattling, but wear is the biggest issue over time. Disassemble and insert the spring. I know, not pleasant. When overhauling, always use exploded views from your engine, to find out which parts go where, en the sequence. In many cases, previous overhauling was not done well, missing parts, or using parts with incorrect size/strength.

@@paruzzi-english Yes, but the problem with subtitles is that they don't let you see the video well.
@paruzzi-english Жыл бұрын
@@ismaelrodriguez687 I understand. There are many tools to turn subtitles into voice over. In the Google Play shop you'll find "Speak Subtitles for KZbin" App, as an example. Once installed, you can turn off the standard English voice, click on the loudspeaker icon and choose another language, from Microsoft or Google AI voices. Hopes this helps until we add native Spanish.

This video series is titled 'ENGLISH', but your narrator is giving torque values in 'Newton Meters'. Please present torque specifications in 'foot pounds.'
@paruzzi-english2 жыл бұрын
I understand your concern. You can use one of the many calculators online like www.thecalculatorsite.com/conversions/common/newton-meters-foot-pounds.php to convert Nm to Foot Pounds. We started in early videos to talk about mm and inches, but it was too much info and confusing, although this was the feedback. So, we had to make a choice. Many viewers in Europe watch the English version, but set captions to Spanish, Italian, German, ... they would be confused with Foot Pound, and we would get the same remark why not use Nm. We mention torque specs, but you need to check your manual, for your engine, to make sure about the torque settings.Thanks for your feedback.

Maybe I missed it, but in your diagram of the pistons TDC movement what are you showing on top of the engine. Pressure built up in the case releasing and then a flap closing after the pressure releases. Where is that flap located and what is it called?
@paruzzi-english2 жыл бұрын
I think you are referring to the crankcase breather. It shows when the pistons are moving back in, a pressure will exist in the crankcase, and that pressure you get out to avoid oil leaking from every crack. It is not part of this content really. It will be discuss in later videos. Thanks for you interest.

Lots of practical information in this video. Thanks. Is the NEW VW replacement fuel pump flange available from Paruzzi? I have had very bad luck with the no-name replacement flanges - especially with the height measurement (too much operational range of the exposed pushrod).
@paruzzi-english2 жыл бұрын
In the comment below the video you'll find links to parts we discuss. This link www.paruzzi.com/webstore/?z=fuel+pump+flange gets you to the flanges, the first one is the Type 1 flange, original VW, as mentioned in the webstore. We show this one in the video 'the one on the left side in the video", it fits just well in an original crankcase.

To test the engine on the workbench, you will need an accessory to attach the starter. Use a part of a gearbox or use the nose of a VW Bus transmission. Different possibilities. You can also mount the engine in the car, then test it, but if something goes wrong, you have to take the engine out again. We explain this in detail in this series of videos.
