Lets mainly keep bees in a way that is healthy to them (thick wall hive, leaving honey instead of replacing it with sugar, free swarming and free natural mating), natural selection can then do the rest (within 5 years), there will not be a (chemical) treatment that does not also hurt/stress the bees just like with varroa destructor

Why don't the United States and Canada work together with Beekeepers instead of Against Us! Allow us to work with our fellow Beekeepers in Canada and vise versa, stop importing bees from over seas.
@researcherAmateurКүн бұрын
There's nothing to cry about. At the worse of it you will cage your queens inducing a brood break.. losing one honey crop at max. Or if you like to eat your chemicals so much go the other route. Brood removal is nothing bad.. you can even get more honey. I'm sure you can monitor it to not get infested and have a possibilty to make nucks from it. Let's not cry about it but adapt

Thank you, for sharing. One question can they be exterminated/controlled by heat to a point that the bees can stand it but Veroa and Tropilaelaps can’t ????

Would you need to wash out the clay pebbles regularly? What tips do you have to maintain the drink stations?
@projectapism5 ай бұрын
It's pretty low maintenance, if you water your plants you can flush this with new water, and if it fills up noticably with leaves and dust, remove that stuff. But generally, if the bees are using it, its good to go!

Yes!! She said salt (just a pinch) or decomposing vegetation but said nothing about sugar.

I just watched another good video about Tropilaelaps mites - an interview with Dr. Jeff Pettis who has done (and is doing) research on this creature in honey bees for many years: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXm4eYyIgbRge9U "Tropilaelaps MITES of Honey Bees - Dr Jeff Pettis"

High levels of long term livestock grazing with promotion of grass cover has also greatly impacted forb abundance and thus reduced bee forage.

So glad I met you Bryan 12 years ago in Fallbrook. 5th generation Ashurst family of ABC . Project Apis shows that through brilliant farming practices, through University Land Grant Institutions that colony collapse and colony decline can be managed profitably. Controlled atmospheric storage is Biotron! Forced temperature control of Apis life cycle, diurnal environmental managements, IPM with pesticide rotations, culling and queen selection: the strong survive the weak. Thanks for making the California Bee Keepers Association and California Agriculture sustainable.

These light weight clay balls seemed perfect to help my bees stay afloat to drink water without falling in. Unfortunately they were more of a death trap. Instead they can’t hold on and struggled as the balls spun-picture trying to stand on rolling logs. I’m going back to my wine corks cut in half.

I lost 20 bees this week because they're drowning in my dog water bowl. I just made one and will move their bowl into a corner and put this one out where they are used to going. They are smart because they are flying around looking for the dog bowls!

I use wine corks and Bees abundant in rhe large containers I previously used for horses. It takes 200 corks with enough open space. In Arizona algae is evident in hot summer so I clean often rotating the cork supply to allow to completely dry out and algae dies off. BUT, I WONDER is it ok to spray with food grade hydrogen peroxide on occasion? Or should corks just be thrown out? What about clay pebbles, do they hold bacteria a d need to be addressed as well for bacteria and/or algae?

High mr Oliver i have some encouraging weather news Australia despite earlier predictions is getting really good rain again for the 3rd year in a row for wa but now a band of rain sweeps the whole continent with cold temperatures and huge rains ,more on the way .maybe this will happen for California too, i hope so as I want you to stay in buisiness. your approach to verroa control is so logical. many people who can't think dont recognise how powerfull it would be if we all could identify any varroa free hives and breed from them. Without destroying our income.

I've been considering making a bee bath ( Seriously? More like a drinking station. ) but was concerned about keeping the water level at a constant hight. Those floating clay ball's answered the question! What about pumice? I'll be searching after this comment but which would be more nutritional? This earned a subscription!

How do you keep mosquitoes from nesting in the water?
@projectapism Жыл бұрын
Hi Nicolas, that is a great question. In general changing the water regularly would disrupt the mosquito's ability to reproduce in it and keep it fresh.
