these are so cool, thx for sharing. i'm also in canada too, just wondering how much it ran you in total for the ice blades, trucks and getting it shipped over here? and have you ever tried foot braking (with cleats)? just wondering how you'd decelerate if you needed to

Nice video bro! You thought that the street tricks were harder in the surfskate?
@MarktheLandlockedSurfer10 күн бұрын
Yeah definitely tougher to pop the tail, but now that I have a few better decks I can do almost everything- just landed a treflip on one this year.

@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer i'm moving from a longboard to a surfskate (similar to carver ones) but I also want to do some street tricks and use the bowl... Do you think surfskate is the best choice?
@andremanno11 күн бұрын
Hi @MarktheLandlockedSurfer ! I reached a point where I am able to climb about half of the quarter face, approaching backside. My frontside is a bit lower, and part of the story is that my tail started to slide (rather than carve) quite often when I am about to climb. In the flats, I am practising snaps, so I assume that the sliding on quarter pipes could be a result of unweighting and slightly pumping the tail just before climbing. I also noticed that this occurs more on quarter pipes rather than bowls. Any advice? I am kind of stuck because the fear of sliding prevents me from experimenting further.
@MarktheLandlockedSurfer10 күн бұрын
Which trucks and wheels are you using when experiencing the inadvertent slide outs? It can happen if you have harder wheels and try to force your bottom turn too much vs following a more natural arc.
@andremanno10 күн бұрын
@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer it's a Carve 540 modded with Carver CX trucks and 70mm 85A wheels from Decathlon. Also, the slide out happens as I approach the face, so it's when I set up for a frontside top turn, rather than at the bottom turn.

Dude this is sick!! So glad I found your video. I have been surf skating a lot recently and I wanted to plan a trip to Barcelona this summer. What spots would you recommend are the best?
@MarktheLandlockedSurfer15 күн бұрын
@alexahorvath4330 Can you tell me a little about your skate style and preferences? There is something for everyone in Barcelona, but it depends on skill level and terrain riding preferences.

@ Totally! I been getting pretty comfortable riding in bowls at the skatepark but am mostly looking for the best spots to cruise and try out some beginner tricks. Still on the journey to figure out which set up I like best for my board too. Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm so sorry for the delay! Sometimes KZbin doesn't give me notifications when there are replies to comments and I only saw you responded now! All within the same area, you could hit Las Olas, those wave banks at Besos; Forum, which has a whole bunch of open spaces and the seawall and fountain thing in this video, and Marbella skatepark to get a little bowl riding in. All of them are a few metro stops apart.

I do two things differently that I feel help keep the pump going. I slightly extend my legs on the way up transition and slightly crouch right after the peak (I kickturn everything frontside and backside even though my trucks are semi-loose). Also I noticed you keep your hands as closed fists. I keep mine loose and use them similar to my legs I slightly raise and slightly lower them as if they had weights on them to get the most out of each pump. Also since I skate fast sometimes there's people around so I like to think of my hands as the first line of defense so I keep them kind of open like a football player ready for anything
@MarktheLandlockedSurfer21 күн бұрын
Love the visualization of "as if I had weights in my hands" - I think I tried to explain it to a student like that before about understanding compression and extension. As for keeping my hands open... my hands are kind of like my face when I am concentrating, trying to control them is a fools endeavor 😄. So I have to just learn to accept my puffed cheek face and pointy finger fists

Great Video! I learned sliding because of this tutorial a year ago. This is T H E advice for sliding/snapping. But i can tell you that there are wheels you cant slide! If youre looking for wheels which are REALLY a dream for sliding on a surfskate but keeping the gripping performance if you need it: Orangatang fat free yellow 86a and the absolutly best sliding wheel ever - the Powel Peralta Dragon G-Bones 64 mm 93a! I will never ride any other wheels again than these.

I heard that the Carver CX is better at higher speeds, is that true?
@MarktheLandlockedSurfer25 күн бұрын
I wouldn't put it that way. Carver CX can be tightened to be less loose feeling and therefore you can tune them to feel more stable. So if you have less experience riding at high speeds, Carver CX might let you progressively learn to get more comfortable. But if you have lots of experience, you'll probably want looser trucks and will be comfortable riding them as loose as the YOW Meraki feels. So CX isn't "better at higher speeds", but it can be more beginner-friendly at higher speeds because it is adjustable.
