Well, i don't know what examples of these in good original condition are worth, but the labor alone will most likely exceed the value, so, I wish you luck, you have several hard years ahead of you, I'll be following.

there aren´t pure mechanical diesels available? cheap, reliable, no electronics/computer... the old mercedes are great. there are 4 or 5 cyl truck engines, om352, om314, om 355/5....

HAHA, Thanks a lot Matt and team! That was fun making that intro with my dog. Your FC build was a great video series and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! You should absolutely do a 677 someday as your builds are always super entertaining and top notch.

A buddy of mine had a 1960 FC 170, we scraped the original flat head six and swapped in a Ford 300 straight six with an Offenhauser duel port °360 intake, Holley four barrel & a split heddman header. He painted it black with some high back bucket seats inside. The truck had a nearly nine foot bed. The whole thing turned out really nice. Oddly enough some guy from Colorado paid my buddy a fairly large number $ for it. The cab & bed were in considerably better shape than what you're starting out with, because it spent most of its original life in the California high desert 🏜 Rock on & good luck those are some really cool/unique ol pickups. Plus your build is more ambitious & sophisticated than ours but we did it well over 25 years ago.

Thanks Dave! That sounds like an awesome build your buddy did! It also sounds very familiar too. The FC community is pretty small and I feel like I have seen that somewhere. I will for sure keep my eye out for it! Ah, that is awesome he was able to start from a desert Jeep. Good bones means it is still floating around here somewhere and in good shape. I do kind of wish I had less rot to start from, but this at least allows me to justify this invasive build as saving it from the scrap heap versus ruining a classic if it was in better shape.

That's going to be nice! I like that you're keeping the D53 in the rear instead of just swapping straight to the D60, and it's cool that you're adding ABS.
@deltadrivedesigns
@deltadrivedesigns 2 ай бұрын
Thank you Dave! I wasn't sure what the feedback on the D53 would be, but I am glad to hear positive thoughts so far! Part of my agenda is to also do some detailed measurements and/or 3D scanning of the internals in hopes that I can cross reference that to guts out of something more available to keep it running for years to come. Everyone seems to ditch it cause there just isn't much out there for parts and gear ratios. Nice! I am excited for the ABS too. it opens up all sorts of options for traction control, if I can figure out how to make it work!

Something to consider with the create diesel. Will you be forced to use DEF fluid? On the 4L60, the 4L80 was built for bigger gas and obviously the Allison for the GM and other diesel manufacturers.

Pretty sad that the price of powder coating has gone up so much, that it's literally cheaper to just build your own setup. Will seriously pay for itself almost immediately. Smh

You can get an om617 for $500. I put one in my jeep in highschool 10 years ago. Part are an issue. VW 2.0 tdi 2009+ is a great motor, common rail injection and variable geometry turbo 140hp stock 230ftlbs stock. It will do 170hp with just a tune.

Great video, Tucker!! Thanks for making it! You asked us to guess which engine you will be installing. My first guess is a new Cummins 2.8 crate engine. My second guess is a Cummins 4BT! I haven't yet watched the video where you speak about the new engine so my guesses are genuine!! I'm looking forward to following this build. It's going to be epic!
