I've used the civilian quest 4 for years working outside in remote Alaska and on construction sites. It has been my go to boot for summer or crossover season work for areas that don't require rubber boots. I recently wore out my last pair of quests and went to try on the new version and was sadly disappointed with the build and quality. It just felt like a cheaper boot. The fit was totally different from my older pairs (my 3rd set). I went on to try Lowa boots and have them now even though they aren't quite as good as my older quest 4s. I've been told to try the Forces version. Thanks for the review.

I must say I am very impressed with my resent purchase of Quest Forces. According to Haix spokesman there is a significant difference between Gore-Tex membrane used in the civilian and the military models. That's probably also case with the Salomon.

Very nice review, expecially because sharing your personal experience with a product, adds quite more depth to the review. I have a new pair of Elite Deserts , recently re-soled beacuse of hydrolisis, same PU problem as yours. I am curious about your time while breaking in the boots. My boot fit perfecly, but my heel slightly moves up and down while walking. And with extreme movements, I can feel a little gab when placing down the heel on the ground. Did you had any similar probelms?
@combatboots10122 күн бұрын
@@rodo9566 the stiffness of the sole does cause some heel slippage early on. Once broken in I found the issue less noticeable. It’s a feature of most general issue boots: very wide heel to accommodate all sorts of wearers.

Thanks again for the video I really enjoyed it.

Excellent review, thanks! I never served but mine have survived prolonged backpacking trips in West Africa and the republic of Georgia, along with general mistreatment. I concur with pretty much everything you said, although I found grip on soft surfaces (deep loose sand and mud) to be suboptimal. On rock with a thin layer of sand - a much more common surface in desert environments - it's perfect though. I know the Elite Evo is also used in some militaries but indeed, it's hard to come by useful reviews of it. Curious about the new Breacher too, it seems to be something in the same vein.
@combatboots1018 ай бұрын
Cheers, you’re welcome. It’s proven difficult to find a boot that gives me the confidence to jump around uneven terrain with 25+ kg on my back and yet not feel like a ski boot as this one does. The Breacher looks very promising but I can’t find any info on whether it uses the same last as the Desert Elite.

I recently visited your KZbin channel and was impressed by its visual appeal. However, I noticed several areas that could use improvement. One significant issue is related to SEO, particularly the optimization of your tags and tag volume. It seems that you haven't given them sufficient attention or completed them adequately. This can affect the visibility and discoverability of your content. Additionally, there may be other areas that require attention as well.

@TakeResponsibilty5 ай бұрын
Before you discount these boots, remember these are for military use, not really for civilians to buy. You will be fitted and issued by the QM with boots, spacers and liners to fit your feet. You don’t have that service as a civilian. What the review didn’t note is that the boot doesn’t have a Gortex lining for a reason. Once the boot is breached, the last thing you want is a Gortex lining. They will take an age to dry out. No good if you want to wear them the next day. They have a Cambrelle lining that’s basically 2-way wicking. Never polish Defenders, use the recommended Leider Gris. Best boots out there, if you have a proper fitting service and know how to maintain them.

Some things I forgot/didn’t convey very clearly in the video. 1. Polyurethane (PU) is durable and is not affected by water in the first few years after manufacture. 2. PU can survive past its use by date provided it’s kept totally dry. 3. After this point the decay of PU is significantly accelerated by water & humidity as was the case here.

These are true military boots for the conditions in central Europe, no hiking boots. And while you are able to march quite some miles with them on not too heavy terain if you get used to the weight, they have their limits on single trails and in winter on ice and snow. I use them and or the predessesor model on day hikes from time to time for training reasons, i woudn´t choose them for multiday tours.

Info I forgot to mention 1. The lining is Cambrielle, non waterproof but designed to draw moisture away from the foot. 2. Comes in full sizes only as is typical for British MOD boots. Half sizing is achieved via a spacer (second insole designed to take up volume in the boot and thereby make it feel like it's half a size smaller). 3. I wore out the original insole a while ago which is why I didn’t show the current one.
