Helpful video thanks. I'm trying to decide whether baby tears is a good option for outside my daughters playhouse. There's an around her playhouse that she'd like a mini lawn. She's asking for fake grass because it's small to get the mower in and we'd rather not have to keep on top of mowing that area but I absolutely dont want artifical plant life. Is this stuff not ideal to be walked and played on though? You say in the video it grows lush in the areas not walked on.

This is hardy to zone 3 - so if you're in zone 3 or warmer, it can survive outdoors. I don't think it will grow well indoors - but I'm not sure about that.

When should the Oakland Hydrangea be pruned?
@HowDoesYourGardenGrowАй бұрын
Oakleaf hydrangeas can be pruned lightly - removing deadwood or a wayward branch - at any time of year. You can prune it to remove dead flower stems by cutting just below the flower cluster anytime after they've finished blooming. Some people like to leave the dried flower clusters on and some people like to tidy the plant for winter by cutting the dried blossoms off. You'll just want to be sure to cut those old flower clusters off before new growth starts in spring. If you want to do major pruning, you might loose next year's flower clusters. It's best to do that right after it blooms.

I have one of these bushes and you just revealed a tip about trimming that I needed to hear! I was doing it wrong and fighting the thing as you put it. Will start this winter to just take out some of the lower shoots and let it fill in on top. I think thats what I heard you say. Love this bush though and I usually have a big vase full on my deck so we can watch the robins demolish the berries!

That hydrangea is a little different than the one in this video. But you can prune it in fall or spring. Depending on whether or not you like to leave up the dried flower blossoms through the winter.

Yes, star jasmine can definitely be grown in large containers. If you want it to get really big and thrive, it needs a pretty big container. The ones at 2:33 in this video are grown in containers. I'd say about 20-24" tall and at least as wide. They can also be grown in a large rectangular planter.

Great video. I went and read your Bio and thought maybe you would have an answer. I'm in Central Coast California zones 8b-9b. I have a stunning Birch tree and want to replace the lawn with low growing, no mowing green ground cover. I love Ruschia Nana but it's not water compatible with the Birch. Landscaper suggested clover but between the bees and needing occasional mowing, may as well keep the lawn. Also recommended Silver Carpet which looks hairy and faded green. I love that people from the UK and Brazil responded. Sweet. Thx for the video...baby tears is beautiful and lush as you indicated
@HowDoesYourGardenGrow5 ай бұрын
Hi - thanks for your nice message - isn't it cool that gardeners can connect from all over the world?!? I love that too! I don't have a lot of experience with the drought and heat of Central California - even though we're close to the same climate zones, our weather is so different! I'd ask around at good garden centers or discuss further with your landscaper to narrow down to your favorite choice.

I think it would mostly stay under the mower blades, so I think that mowing wouldn't kill it. But if the mower blades were set really low and gouged into it, it would set it back.
