My maine coon i got as my starter would do great at shows but she did 1 show and was very clear she hated it especially being held by anybody who isn't me. She was bitey but turn extremely wriggly and very very vocal about it 🙈 i plan to keep 1 when she has her 1st litter and will be started to be held a lot as will have plenty of volunteers in my sons friends and family and will start early with them all so if any new owners want to show will have a easier time and hopefully will see if any really dont like it so can help match kittens to the right owners for both them and owner

Get yourself a $10. Soldering pen at a Walmart or hardware shop for that job, , plug it into an extention cord if you need to and please do it outdoors next time. Those plastics fumes are not good to inhale.

Wonderful video. You are extremely helpful and informative. I am retired and entertaining idea of Persian breeding since it's my favorite breed however only want to start out with one couple. Am concerned about my male peeing on things (since am a nutcase about not having pee anywhere other than my 6 litter boxes) and would highly appreciate your opinion: breed them vs. not.

Boys have to be housed as students cats. You can love them like a pet but they need to be housed like a stud. And cats are not like dogs. You don’t get a breeding pair. You need four of five cats. The aim is to progressively improve the type and temperament not just to have kittens. They are a breed that needs extra grooming. But it’s super rewarding and showing them is fun. So if all of that fits then go for it. If not you can still get a shoe cat and shoe in the desexed class.

Is it possible for a fixed male to “mate” with a female in heat to give her relief? I know she wouldn’t get pregnant obviously but would it “trick” her into thinking she’s out of heat? Would the fixed male instinctually do it or is he unable to mate if he’s fixed? Or would she continue to call/be annoying? Help!

It takes weeks after they are desexed for them to be no longer fertile so be careful about that. They can still have the instinct but they won’t have the hormones. So they will get on but not complete the deal so to speak.

They absolutely can. If you look on my Cuddleton page on Facebook I just posted photos of my stud cat Gunther in his new home. He is no living with the family that have his mother and his aunt. 100% a pet boy now.

Hi Pamela, I am a new breeder expecting first litter of ragdolls next week. I have been advised if cat is having contractions for 30 minutes without producing a kitten she should be taken to vet, I think this is too soon do you have a cut off time or do you just go by how the cat is during labour? Oh that advice is a bit off. The first kitten can take longer. A breach kitten can take a lot longer. The first kitten if it is breach will be longer still. If a kitten is stuck it can be an emergency but it is very unlikely that an hour or so will change that. It’s important to know how long but not to panic. Remember cats often give birth in the night with no one counting the minutes and they do just fine. A natural birth is always better than a Csection. For your cats plus it’s expensive and that money could be spent on other cat bills. Give her a chance to do it but go in if she can’t. It’s a fine line and experience helps. Thank you for sharing. I’m a cat breeder as well and I’m wondering do you give calcium? I give calcium after every delivery of a kitten. Usually 1-2ml. Honestly, I’ve been doing it with all of my queens for 5 yrs now that I don’t know how it is without it. What are your thoughts?

It’s bacteria that gets in when the eye first opens then it closes from the infection and seals in the bacteria. It will eventually blow out but you risk eye ulceration or losing the eye if you let it get that bad. It’s easy to clean and treat.

When I think backyard breeding this is what comes to mind, cats in cages. When you desex your cats and try and rehome your stud cats and queens their mentality of them is destroyed and they can really struggle emotionally with how overwelmingly diffent being a house cat is! I adopted an ex breeding queen and I didnt know untill after that she was kept like this, she gives herself affection on furniture and is extrelly timid and shy and scared of large spaces and being in a house! Its really messed her up emotionaly I can say for sure! I feel sad that she had to go through that, its probably going to take years for her to come out of her shell. But this is just the harsh reality, its your 'hoby' but your playing with their life! With such a commercial set up I wouldnt be calling it a hobby but a business, factory breeding.

I strongly disagree. You only have to look at my Facebook page Cuddleton British Shorthairs, to see many examples of my breeding cats that have gone on to have wonderfully lives. Yesterday I got a photo of Ellie who her owner says sits on the kitchen bench while she preps dinner and sleeps on her kids beds at night. Mila does story time with her new little humans. Bernard now lives with his brother and loves to lounge about the house. It’s the breeding. I have bred for temperament first for years. I keep social cats for breeding so they will settle in new homes later. Every cat is different. Your cat is shy. It’s not because she was a breeding cat. You can’t use one example and call it a rule sorry.

Mother cats start to reject their kittens at 13 weeks. They can become very aggressive towards them. A bit like a kid living at home at 50 kind of thing. Wow! I hope the kitten is doing well that's a big expense. You are a fantastic breeder. ❤

It’s not done. One at a time is best practice. It is not seen as good animal husbandry and a bit exploitative of the male. You want to have the girls separate, in for three days of mating then out. The next girl can then go in for three days.

I'm in the UK, I've been with Royal Canin Breeder scheme for several years but they only send me the cards to give to new owners and they have to text a code to RC to claim the packs.

Oh they don’t have bags or blankies? But great that your owners can get free food. My tip would be to get them to do the code text by sending it to them in an email and then reminding when they are picking up their kitten so they can do it if they forgot. Gotta get the free bag lol.

Hello!!! What’s the best age for cats when they actually start mating ? I’m a beginner in breeding. My male cat is about 14 months old Maine coon (white and large framed) I do suspect that he’s deaf. My female cats are: 3 years old Maine coon Ragdoll at least 14-15 months A seal point Persian who’s at least a year old now But none of them are showing any signs of heat or mating. They all live in one room. I don’t know if they are all late naturally or the male is deaf due to which there’s no activities. Any tips ?!

No they are not. I got them as a pet tbh but I wanted to experience how it’s like breeding before deciding if I want to officially or not. They were actually cats that were given away or no longer wanted cats. I do want to breed the Maine coons and the ragdoll with the Maine coon. Do I have to keep them all separate ? Is it because there’s too many females with one male ? Is it because they are all different breed ? I know cats don’t usually care as I’ve seen many perdolls and coon dolls. One of my other young kitten is a Persian mix ragdoll. Or are they still too young ? Or is it because the MALE is DEAF so he can’t do anything. I’ve asked advice from a few breeder I know but no one wants to give away any information so I’m genuinely confused

I’m going to subscribe to your channel bc you are very articulate and easily understood. Informative as well. Everything you said I’ve gone through. My females make me sick to be around when in heat. They roll over and over while laying down 🤡 call and cry 😭 ugh. I do a lot of cleaning and searching for peeeeee 😩 places ie: I always look at a plastic bin in the light reflectivly, sure enough there it is. So I needed this video thanx.

Is it acceptable to not breed in family house and instead a kennel like yours ? Wouldnt they be more comfortable in the house ?

They would be more comfortable but my house would be coated in pee and poop and scratched up. Multi cat households of breeding cats are stressful for cats. They bully and fight each other. And they wreck the place. It’s not sustainable. Anyone who says their stud cats don’t smell is lying or needs their nose checked. Ask your closest most honest friend if your cat smells like pee. They will tell you the real truth 😉

Hello i know this is an old video but i rescued a stray who was pregnant her babies are 14 days old and all have opened their eyes except one of them and one has one eye open and one eye closed. I know it can take up to 16 days but im worried since the rest of them have opened their eyes. What do i do?

I seperated him from his litter mates and bottle fed him for about a day, he was the runt and just wasn't getting enough attention, I left him to open his eyes on his own but he never did so I put warm water on my finger and gently encouraged his eyes to open.
