I've set up my Naza Lite's failsafe today and I watched it do this 5 times. :) It's great! Mine landed in radius of 45cm from the takeoff point.

If you descend at a rate of about 2 meters per second or above, and you have no lateral speed at all, you will be flying in your own propwash, which will make for a bumpy ride and might spoil your video. Better to have a bit of horizontal movement and avoid your own turbulence. I am a big fan of Martin and Build your own drone, I have bought several machines from him and he even built a custom S800 evo will all mod cons for me, which is perfectly set up as a video platform with 3d zenmuse. Now saving up for Bnucs licence.....

Yes, you can yaw whilst also providing pitch and roll inputs. For aerial photography you will want gradual yaw to provide the horizontal panning so I can't see it having an adverse effect. One of my key reasons for choosing hex over quad is fault tolerance. The craft can still fly with 5 propellors but will rotate continuously due to the imbalance of 3 props rotating in 1 direction versus 2 in the other. However both Course Lock and failsafe Return to Home are unaffected by this. My other key reason is stability. More rotors enable more stable flight. The disadvantage of hex is the intrusion of the rotor arms into the camera field of view but this is mitigated by mounting the camera lower and forward.

You are probably right about descent being affected by its own propellor swash however it might be possible to improve performance by tweaking the gain settings. I bought my F550 from www.buildyourowndrone.co.uk and collected it because he is quite local to me. He's a one man band selling from home and a real enthusiast who has been flying RC models for years. You can count on knowledgeable support. He has a great F550 promotion including Naza M v2 and Zenmuse H3-2D gimbal for £500. It sells out quickly when in stock but he seems to get new stock regularly so give him a call and ask about lead times. However best source of support is the F550 owners' group on Facebook. There's even a shared Google document in which group members share their configuration and settings. If you participate in the group for a while before buying, you get to learn about the many customization options and may elect to build a custom craft from components rather than buying the stock model. There are options for everything it seems, except for the bottom plate!

Actually, no poles, so that I remained balanced. Next year I'll get a sport-cam because I prefer to have my hands free of course., and it should result in a more stable picture too.

I don't know what is scarier, Rémy skiing or his father following using only one pole because he is also filming his son on his phone.
