I have a supertalented GP horse. His name is kurioso, A De Niro son and Rubinstein's grand son. He's so talented that he can do one-tempis in a figure 8. Yet he is lazy most times. Every now and then, he is a turbo horse, but I don't control the switch. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the help.

And plus, Laura doesn't the horse require the strength in the back, ie a sufficient top line, in order to carry the rider to sit the trot? I so much believe that the horse needs the foundation to pick them selves up, the foundation brings sufficient training to build the muscles in the back, in order to use the back "properly". They need to understand how to do it! So yes, i agree, its so important to have all that in place before we can sit! Im so pleased to hear you reinforce that idea!

I'm assuming her dad is Steve the actor. Very cool of him to have been and still be so close to his daughter and share their interests together. He's about 12 years older than me but my son is about the same age as Ashlee and out relationship is not nearly as close. He is into hot rods but I couldn't get him interested in lead guitar or even the bass. But now, at 38, he's telling me he's ready to learn... lol

Makes me sick to watch

It seems to me this is a huge misinterpretation of the horse by the rider. Horses like this are so often written off as naturally "hot," sensitive, forward, energetic, tempermental, sassy, naughty. In reality, all of the behaviors this mare has are highly correlated in science with stress and often pain. When a horse is chronically stressed like she may be, as upper level horses so often are due to not getting their natural needs met (friends, freedom and forage), they are constantly tense, and hold that tension in different parts of their body. This creates pain and stiffness in the muscles, and bad patterns of moving in their body causes skeletal pain (think joint pain). So now imagine this horse is going through all of this discomfort both mentally and physically, and her rider, who should be her caretaker, writes it off as her being "naughty" and she is just naturally hypersensitive. Pretty sad. We can and need to do better for our horses. Like I have and continue to do, acknowledge my mistakes and adjust to do better for my horse. He deserves nothing less!

Why do you ride her so behind the vertical? All horses with a blocked back want to run away.. this is natural.

No wonder this horse is "hot", she can't see anything going behind the vertical almost all the time. Every time you let go of the reins she relaxes and is not hot/stressed. Why not start their, ride her with lang reins and get her balanced in walk, trott and canter and then engage the hindlegs to get the head up. What you are doing is almost Rollkur and not god horsemanship.
