The recommended flow for collaborative work is that on each edit operation, user can work on his local copy In local workspace. once done Save the local copy and close it Publish the updated design to shared workspace, so that everyone I team has access the changes done

Now all you need are Schematic Directives to drive that panel... one of the things Altium has that is great. Great for design reuse and cool since you don't have to name every single little 2 connection net to find it in a Constraints spreadsheet. Do it right in the schematic graphically. Funny how Altium now wants to go the way of a constraints editor. And a lot of Altium users gave up on that once they figured out it sucks...

around 1m:25s when you search for 100nF, why would the result table show values like 1nF, 1.5nF or even 2.2nF ? this sounds not logical and is not what the user want to search for.
@CadencePCBDesignandAnalysisАй бұрын
Hi there, thanks for the question. The elastic search engine tries to prioritize exact matches at the top, and similar but not exact matches will be displayed below. At 1:25 the results are shows after scrolling quite a ways down. In the case of a capacitor this might seem odd, as most users know exactly what they’re looking for. For that we recommend using the filters. But if your library doesn’t have a 100nF 50v x7r, maybe you’re ok with using a 100nF 100V x5r. Elastic search allows you to quickly see those similar but not exact results. For things like IC’s and Connectors it allows to quickly find a match by typing in words that are frequently found in the comment or summary section of a part, such as “10 pin right angle screw terminal”

In addition, it is not possible to push the information of the replacement components to the database. In the bottom line, you can see that there is a problem, but not much beyond that. But it's a great and welcome start to an important tool

On each LiveBOM invocation for a design an output folder containing BOM CSV gets created for each project. This BOM CSV has the MPN and SKU information which gets fetched from Sourcengine. You can find the .CSV fine by right clicking on the workshop.dsn file and opening the file location.

I've understood and followed along with the previous videos up until the moment the MCU (ATSAMD21G18A-MF) is introduced. I've downloaded the assets from Part 2 of this tutorial series and pasted the SYMBOLS.OLB and the how_to_videos_footprint_lib folder to their respective folder locations. Nowhere can I find the MCU and other new parts introduced in this video. Perhaps there is some other download folder that is missing?
@CadencePCBDesignandAnalysis2 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for your question. Make sure you place the SYMBOLS.OLB in the following directory to view it in the OrCAD X OnCloud Component Explorer: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SPB_Data\cdssetup\workspace\libraries\symbols". This is the only folder required so the only other issue could be maybe be that you need to allow the folder to upload to the cloud before it appears. Go to View > Workspace > File Manager to double check the upload status in the top-right gear icon called Sync Status under Files Pending Upload.

Compared to Allegro X, can OrCAD X support microvias? Say an 8 layer board where L1-2 , L2-3, L3-4 are stacked laser microvias and L4-5 is a mechanical drill. L5-6, L6-7, & L7-8 are stacked micro vias. The hope would be to have the L4 laser via pad and L4 mech drill pad tangent or "kissing" each other.

How does the interface work?
@CadencePCBDesignandAnalysis4 ай бұрын
@@zivhalperson614 Hello, and thanks for the questions. There is an automated CSV output which you can find in the Outputs folder section of your project panel. Another option is to press the "Schematic Update" button in the top-right which will synchronize all MPN and Manufacturer choices to the schematic, and then you can just use a regular BOM export to get the same information out. At this time there is no manual export out of Live BOM. We are working on adding a more customizable output button in a future release, similar to a BOM output. Stay tuned for more info on that.

It's really nice But more importantly, how do I link all the library I already have, without moving their location on the server And how do I work locally without the cloud. The ability to work locally and not transfer data to the cloud is very important to me
@CadencePCBDesignandAnalysis4 ай бұрын
We are currently working on import options for existing CIS databases as well as other OrCAD library-related files into the OrCAD X Cloud. However, I am unable to comment on when to expect this feature. As for working locally instead of the cloud... while we are adding better local caching and local options, the OrCAD X Cloud library is meant to be a cloud connected service, as many of the features rely on Cadence cloud. You can always revert to using local OLB libraries while in OrCAD X if you need to keep things local. Hope that helps.

Great job on this series. I do have to say the Altium-like interface is kinda cool - being a Protel/Altium user for over 20 years and have done over 3,000 designs with it. Used Orcad SDT DOS before that and PADS before that. The Orcad for Windows fiasco is why I went to Protel back in the mid-1990's Cadence is getting there... still a ways to go to be as productive as Altium. A few things: - Need shortcuts for all those times you have to go to the panel. - Also, a TAB keystroke would be cool so that it freezes where you were on the canvas and not be dragging things to the panel - Also - keystrokes for changing layers. In Altium it's the -/+ key Having to constantly go up to that routing panel looks painful. - Selection of routing vias - min, pref, max would be cool. - AND GET RID OF THE SILLY PADSTACK thing. Good lord, no need for that nowadays. - Again, in Altium, you can just use SHFT-space bar to change routing angle. - Altium's push and shove is a lot more advanced - even when copy-pasting via strings, like you do when you were pasting the power via stringers - it will push things out of the way. You never get DRC's at all. - FSO - Find Similar Objects. which leads to - A comprehensive list system for each editor. - A visual indicator of the snapping. Altium has a small circle for that. I see you copied their snap dialog, but they have a fairly granular set up for snapping including snap distance and such. I'd have to demo all these for your team to show what you really need to do to get this to the level that Altium's GUI offers. As to Constraint Manager - well, yuk. Altium just tried that and a lot of people complained. They recently shut it off as a default advanced pref. But I thought it through, and since I work with Orcad with one client they were always jealous of directives. A few videos here explaining why: two pin nets kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2G3k4NtjpeDnbM reuse kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHSynoasjpadfK8 Even KiCAD sees the value of directives. I mean, a table to manage directives would be nice, and Altium has a long standing bug with editing multiple selected directives So yea - Orcad's getting better. But it got a ways to go...

Hi there, and thanks for the response. It's great to hear from passionate board designers as yourself. Just to comment on some of your feedback, we find that different users find productivity with different workflows and features. As OrCAD X Presto is still early in its lifecycle, we're always looking to add improvements, fixes, and features that users ask for, as well as those we believe will be beneficial to all users. Regarding some of your specific asks, I think you will be quite pleased to see what we have in store for our next release and future releases. Specifically regarding constraints and padstacks, our users find this method of organization to be very powerful in large designs, but a bit tedious in small to medium designs. Either way, we're working to address all use cases. We'd love to hear more of your feedback and thoughts, so please don't hesitate to reach out to a local rep or on our support portal and you can ask for me directly by name. -Adam

during place multiple components action, I type in a RefDes and get a warning triangle in the helper window. What did I miss?
@CadencePCBDesignandAnalysis5 ай бұрын
The triangle shows up when the input is invalid. Make sure you're entering a RefDes that matches one in your netlist. If you're unsure what RefDes to use, you can find your list of parts in the Search panel at the bottom. Also, double check that your netlist is actually imported into the design. In the board outline step, it is possible to import a board outline, but still have the netlist wiped. In that case, it's a simple fix of simply exporting to your same .brd file through OrCAD X Capture.

Unfortunately the DFA circle never appears. If I place parts too close from each other, I do get a DRC error about DFA package to package error, so I guess my DFA rules are set correctly. I tried turning on all the layers, changing the grids, but no improvement. In the video, I noticed that the DFA circles seem to latch on assembly outline instead of the DFA_bound. I tried adding a filled rectangle on the component assembly_top, but it did not help. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

There is VCO_SIN modelling App available in Capture -PSpice. One can configure it's model parameter to achieve desired V to F relationship. This should be tried first as standalone circuit to confirm that VCO transfer function and sensitivity is in desirable range, once this is confirmed, one should connect this with rest of circuit.

I think Cadence should include the option of viewing the name of the schematic design from which the netlist has been created. It will be help in 2 things, 1 after going to new layout, the display of schematic name in the PCB editor will ensure the netlist has been created from correct schematic design, 2 whenever we open the BRD file we can ensure there is proper sync between the schematic and PCB layout so that we don't need every time confirm the sync between the schematic and PCB

great suggestion @deepakgkrishnan6062 I'm one of the product engineers for OrCADX and I agree this would be valuable information. Ideally we should display the design name, the revision, and the designers name who produced the netlist. I'll log this as something to look at for future releases.
