My bro. went to h.s with Kerwin at st. Francis h.s . As a SOPH met him in Costa Mesa after he won a AAU 100 yd dash in 9.6 -9.7 !!!! . He was very tough for his size. He played WR as a fr. SOOO very gifted. He would still own the OC rushing record if HE played more than one half or three qtr's of a game .

Edison beat undefeated Redlands 55-0 in championship that year. Unbelievable

I remember this team. I played in Sea View League with University high school Trojans as 1st team noseguard. Edison ruled football in those days. Fountain valley high school almost beat them in 81 at Anaheim stadium. Fountain valley has 14-0 lead but Edison won 15-14. Kerwin bell was crazy good and buncha Edison players went to big colleges and pros. Duval love played on Barons and went to the rams. Fountain valley had an extremely good football team and should have defeated edison that year. 2 best teams in entire country back then.

My high school was playing for a Class 3A State Championship here in North Carolina that same year. Unfortunately we lost in the last minutes in a defensive struggle 7-3. We were defending state champions in 2A going into that year. Love watching old high school football games.

Tough game, loved watching it, especially seeing Rick Justice play. His dad was my Midget Pop Warner Head Coach and my dad was one of his assistants in 1967.

That was a Thursday night game, very unorthodox... we were behind 17-7 with about two-minutes left. Jimmy caught a TD from Rick to make it 17-13. We on-sided the kick-off and recovered the ball! First play, brass-balls call to Hines from Rick, TD pass ! We win 20-17. All the Edison fans LEFT the stands with three minutes left... we got to school the next day, Friday... everyone said: "Looooooser!" We had to show them the newspaper headline: EDISON WINS @ LAST MINUTE!
