rip paul alperstein. i remember when this came out of no where one friday night. i think me and my friends came back from a movie and we were wrestling friends. and we turned the tv on and saw all these old awa guys. brunzell was the commission as i remember

i cannot express how excited i was when espn announced they were going to air a weekly AWA programme. It is all my friends and co-workers talked about…the possibilities. Then a large group of us went to Milwaukee arena and sat up front in what was close to a sellout crowd. The entire evening felt like Gagne was deliberately trying to send a message that they wanted to go out of business starting with a Leon White vs Marty Janetty opening match where both wrestlers were obviously wasted out of their minds in their first ever Milwaukee appearance. TWENTY MINUTES of BOOOOOOOOOing and throwing crap from everywhere by 10 minute mark, they looked ridiculous in what should have been a 2 minute squash match for Leon. The first of FOUR draws finally ended it. NO championship match anywhere. Hall and Hennig were trashed and stumbling. The nights main event….a cage match between Michael Hayes and the fat Georgia Mountain man. Hayes COULD BARELY WALK MUCH LESS WRESTLE and they spent most of the match trying to get their fake ass blood packets clearly attached to their foreheads to open up so it looks like they were bleeding. By the time the match mercifully ended 30 looooong minutes later 10% of crowd remained and the ring was a garbage can, debris everywhere. We had to move back 30 rows to avoid the debris, not that it mattered, we were all already soaked with beer and soda and whatever stuck to it. 1 month later they came back, Hayes was gone, 1/4 of seats were taken in spite of fact that there was title matches. Gagne BLEW IT BIGTIME, those seats were never filled again after that June 85’ evening.

Thanks for the great upload. I remember LPWA from ESPN late nights. As soon as I saw Heidi Lee in the opening promo I had to watch. Heidi Lee was such a great "face". So much energy and brimming with confidence before heading to the ring for an obvious loss. Got a kick out of the announcers at 23:15 saying that Goddess was the clear favorite since she had a manager and a mask - LOL. As a side note, seemed like Candi was mailing it in a little in her role as the Goddess. Lazy promo IMO at the beginning and no finisher when she had Heidi Lee at her mercy at the end. IMO she could have done a better job with that gimmick.

I grew up with the AWA, loved the promotion and wanted them to succeed. Just so sad that they folded after the WWF raided all their talent as well as the other Territories Talent.

This is what AWA ended up as - the ten people in attendance didn't care about the TCS, the wrestling world didn't care. The whole thing was a big dud.

Things were winding down in the TCS the moment it started.

The women's match was so much better than today's women's matches - wrestlers > models.
