What an interesting interview. I know and love Nolan.

For the longest time, I thought that the B17 had 2-Row Engines!! Imagine if indeed she had twin-rows!! But then she would probably burn almost twice the fuel.

I was A-1 skyraider crewchief at nkp 69. Remember zorros us. Sat next to nimrods. Was there when they left in November. One of our crewchiefs Daniels crewed C-7s in 70. Delivering ammo to firebases wonder if u could have run in to him. From Louisville. Passed agent orange about 9 years ago

It’s so amazing to me of how smart some people were (are) to develop these engines so many years ago,it makes me feel like a moron because I I still don’t really comprehend how everything works in that engine.

Sad thing is how many of these were made, just to be destroyed long before it’s user life, 😢😢😢.

How were the engines numbered on the B17? My Dad was a navigator on a B17 Shot down over Germany. The information I have says number 3 engine was hit, but still went on to deliver payload over target before going down. The Greatest Generation.

If you buy a technical book that mixes statistics and war stories about B17s then maybe you have time to read the "war Diary of 8th airforce", there stories there but the best one, except the mustang stories and other stories, is a B17 cut in half and the tail gunner riding the thing into the ground cause the fuselage was so mangeled he could not get back and get to his chute ........ EXCEPT .... just before hitting the gound the tail leveled out and made a perfect landing. So he lived.

Can't believe they're still using the old prefambulating side trundling techniques. Logarithmic capacitance has long been considered to be the optimal solution for trench winding, especially with a nombaristive system being used for fumble control.

Prefabulated amulite? That's a recipe for disaster! I would recommend fabulating your own amulite going forward. The prefabulated stuff doesn't account for the heat generated by the lunar wane shaft.
