Great video and editing and superior design! My first thought also was an OMG look how she cross cut on the tablesaw. But I see you understand now. It would have been even a bit safer to have the wide piece against the fence so the narrow piece cannot bind. There are some great videos of slow motion kickback on KZbin. Katz-Moses has one of the best.

I watch a fair amount of KZbin woodworkers (I do woodwork myself), and from the cover thumbnail, I thought this was a video about building a new dresser from scratch. This was a great refurbishment and example of how you really took something that already existed and -- while not zero work -- with less work than building from scratch you showed how to really take what otherwise would be thrown away and made it like new and quite attractive. More than that, you're doing it with basic, old and not very fancy tools (what? No Festool? You can woodwork without a Festool Domino??!!!!). I really thought the video was great. I haven't looked at your other videos yet, but I'll subscribe for now....
@thecolibridesign9 күн бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! I'm for sure no expert but I like sharing what I know and enjoy learning as I go. You definitely don't need anything fancy to start woodworking! (even though a Domino would be pretty cool to have 😏)

I literally yelled NOOOOO out loud when you cross cut the oak on the table saw with the fence. My wife asked what's wrong, I said, if this person keeps cutting wood like that, her next video will be with less fingers. Please, please, please, Don't do that, make a cross cut sled or even use the cheap cross cut gage that came with your saw. Now - great leg design
@thecolibridesign9 күн бұрын
I didn't realize how dangerous it was until I reviewed the footage! I usually use my miter saw or circular saw with a rafter square for that type of cut, but I was in a hurry and didn't want to take out other machines. Lesson learned, I will definitely be getting a sled or building one very soon. I will not be doing that type of cut like that again! Thank you so much!

Wow, what a transformation! I love the new legs, love them. And the transition between the green of the cabinet and wood legs really sets the piece off. Fantastic work :) I am really into woodworking and have always wanted to remake distressed/run down furniture, but I never see pieces that would even be able to be remade. I see mostly particle board junk. Or they are "antiques" and pricey.

Fansastic result, you've got one more subscriber. I don't have a table saw but AIUI you shouldn't do a cut like you did at 6:34, it's too easy for the wood to skew slightly and get caught on the back of the blade which will throw it back at you. I think you should be using a mitre guage or cross cut sled. PLease take this in the spirit it's intended and keep safe.
@thecolibridesign10 күн бұрын
Thank you! Oh yeah, I knew that was a dangerous cut to do! I was too lazy to take out my miter saw and thought to myself, “Well it's just one cut” 🫣 luckily nothing bad happened but yes, I agree with you. I probably should build a sled soon!

@thecolibridesign10 күн бұрын
Oh, I get that! Oak on its own is beautiful and quite cheap! Which is why I think people opt to use Oak. For its beauty, strength, cost, and that it accepts stains so effortlessly. If only other wood species were as cheap as red oak!

Great build! 2 things: you won’t really get any wood movement on such thin pieces of oak and the unit itself is veneered and engineered - so you’re good their too. The other thing is your figure 8s are cut in tight meaning they can’t do their job of allowing wood movement too well if they did need to! Try chiseling out the round corners where the figure 8 extends from the base to the unit. Love your work, I’ve picked up a load of tips from you!
