can you still buy replacement inks for the Maurvy pads?

Hello and yes you can. I just did a search of "Marvy Ink Re-inkers" and here's what comes up: www.1stopsquare.com/marvypad.html. uchida.com/products/re-inker?srsltid=AfmBOooKKzFlAFD_3KdbrcXJF2XRwx6LMvrG434krVdpG9W0CpiuTeDg. www.peddlersden.com/product/marvy-dye-inks-uchida/. www.marcopaper.com/product/marvy-dye-based-inkpad-reinkers/. If these links aren't working, you can just do a search and click on the links that come up but it looks like Marcos has a lot of them in stock still if their website is up to date.

This was fascinating to me, thank you! I have many PSX stamps and didn’t recognize the work and care that went into manufacturing them. I have some of the original stamps and what I can only guess are “newer” PSX stamps because they have routed sides and clear stickers on them. I’ve been stamping since 1997 and will now look at some of my older wood mounts through a different lens. Thank you.😊
@stampscapes2 күн бұрын
That's interesting with the labels on some of your PSX stamps. I didn't know they went that route with their manufacturing (I'm assuming the overseas manufacturing that they went with at one point) but those ink indexed (probably pad printing) versions takes a long time to do and the wood and print has to be perfect or you're tossing out the wood. By routed sides, do you mean the more traditional hourglass profile shape of most mounts? If so, I didn't know that either but would make sense as the beveled sides, again, takes forever to do as they have to do that on each piece which must have been so time consuming. I've recently learned that a lot of people have old PSX stamps where the rubber has completely hardened, sometimes cracked, or just degraded in general in some way. I'm guessing that those are from when they farmed out production overseas to Taiwan and/or China which I wish they hadn't done if that was the case. To save money maybe they should have just adopted the standard hourglass profile of mount that everyone else used and switched to labels and continued to manufacture in the US but I guess they wanted to stick with what they had been known for which is understandable. I know how much it costs to make a wood mounted stamp and how much those manufacturers had to additionally discount their stamps to sell them in those big box stores/chains and I'd have to think they might have been making less than a 10% profit on their stamps. Maybe even half that when manufacturing domestically so maybe they farmed it out and the overseas manufacturer could ship directly to those centralized buyers for the large chain stores or something. I'm just speculating here as I've always wondered what happened to them as when they were gone it felt so sudden and I was sad they were gone.

Can you please tell me where I can get the glossy cardstock?
@stampscapes6 күн бұрын
Hello Sheila. Glossy card stock is a little harder to source these days than before. You can find Kromekote in a full ream online at Amazon. I don't know how much it would cost in-store but $36 seems like a decent price (amzn.to/3PgCI8d). 4 years ago it would have been $25 but paper has really gone up in price since then so I'm surprised it's $36. Now, glossy paper is really a nice dynamic paper but a ream is something where you better like that look as it's 200 sheets. A pretty good alternative is semi glossy which is more like a satin finish. It's closer to matte than glossy but it more sealed than matte and smoother. You can find different examples of that on Amazon in smaller quantities like this one (amzn.to/4gxPSJQ). The Hamilco says glossy but it's much more of a semi-gloss. It's not as shiny as a true glossy but you can spray seal your pieces with an acrylic spray to make them glossier if you wanted. If you're ever in the Portland area, there's still a Kelly Spicers store there which is a paper wholesaler but they're also open to the public. There's paper supply issues that are probably going on now but you can usually find various card stocks off the shelf there such as Kromekote, Mohawk Everyday Digital White Coated Silk (semi gloss), and others sold in reams. What you're looking for is a 10pt-12pt glossy (or semi gloss) cover stock and CS1 if glossy (single sided glossy). CS2 is nice too but it can cost quite a bit more.

I cant seem to know where to get started. You mentioned glow in the dark vinyl but its not in the above list.
@stampscapes9 күн бұрын
Ah, thanks, got that added in. With this combination of media for this scene, just be sure and use compatible inks with the different unconventional stamping surfaces. With the printable vinyl, use your water based media but use something like a StaZon with the impressions for the foils and white Brilliance for the wave highlights but seal it off when dry. Do a few test prints if you haven't used this type of media before. StazOn on foil is a matter of getting the impression time adjusted. Hold long enough for the ink to transfer but not so long that the ink dries while making the impressions. I practice it a little if I haven't done it for a few months.

Glad the vid came in handy. If you have those cartridges, you might keep them after they run out of ink as I don't know if they're being made anymore. I think there's some that use syringes to inject ink into the cartridges for continued usage. I never bothered as I bought a lifetime supply of them when I thought the pens weren't being made any longer about 10 years ago but I think that might be the actual case now.

@@stampscapes Oh... I didn't know that this type of pencil could be discontinued. I bought one recently and the seller told me that they were getting some, not in abundance, but they were getting some. The good thing is that I have the 250ml Rotring ink, so I can refill the tubes.

@@JaniceQW It's been a long time since industry used these types of tools with everything being done on computers so I wouldn't be too surprised to see a lot of the technical pen types of instruments being discontinued unfortunately. If anything, maybe some Chinese company would come up with some cheap version of a tech pen but I doubt they'd ever be near the quality of a company like Rotring but something out of China would be based around price.

Hi Kevin, I've bee collecting for over 30 years and still buying lots on Ebay cause you know, one can have too many but never enough. I collect the big botanicals and birds by PSX and many are rock hard even though they've been stored out of the sun.... at least that's what the sellers say. They are brittle and even the cushion is hard. Another brand is Mostly Animals where I've noticed that, but PSX is a huge problem. There are many discussions about that. What is your opinion?
@stampscapesАй бұрын
Strange with the PSX stamps. I know both the rubber they used and the type of cushion and those shouldn't be hardening prematurely. In fact, I have a set of early 70's rubber stamps that I got as a kid where the rubber is still fine. I don't recall what Mostly Animals was using but should have been 100% rubber. Were they the ones that used black rubber? The only thing that I can think of is that maybe something like Windex was used to clean them repeatedly or some other ammonia based cleaner which could dry rubber but, even that, I don't recall seeing that happen but could be a problem if it's 25-30 year old stamps. Almost all of my (private collection) stamps here work fine as do my own but I do have two where that company used a cheaper type of rubber where it has some clay filling. That rubber was cheaper but porous that I saw when I worked for another stamp company so I knew to always use 100% red. But, you might try something like Simple Green on your dry ones and see if that can reconstitute things. Wouldn't being them back to good-as-new but might make them more supple for usage but you would probably have to do that periodically. I've used a diluted version of that type of cleaner over the years but usually just use water -but, the Simple Green always did a nice job and I thought it almost conditioned the rubber a little.
@evaj.133728 күн бұрын
@stampscapes Mostly Animals had pink rubber. It's often the unused ones where it occurs. Experts are talking about free radikals, temperature changes, of course UV light that break down the molecules in the rubber. The other extreme is when it looks like the rubber melted. I've tried soaking them in glycerin but I no longer deal with it. If they are destroyed the go to rubber heaven.
@stampscapes28 күн бұрын
@@evaj.1337 Very strange. I don't have a huge cross section of stamps from a lot of companies but most companies purchased their rubber from, maybe, about 4-5 different suppliers over the years. The vulcanizing process could have been different as that was mostly done in house with the different manufacturers where they set their temperatures differently and there was also a situation of the age of the rubber at the time of usage but the rubber should have been fine as there was a lot of turnover. If anything, if the rubber was old, you'd get air bubbles and that rubber usually wouldn't be used much less continued to be pressed and stamps sent out that way. But, yes, strange as I've never run across that nor have heard of anything like you've described. Would be interesting if you could post photos of these as I'd be curious to see that.

I've watched this one several times trying to figure out exactly what it is that draws me to this one so much. I think it's the stark contrast between colors...the yellows against the black. Add in the gold foil & it just enhances it. Then of course, there's those subtle greens. I just love this one!
@stampscapesАй бұрын
Your pieces are always great visually and when you're really into what you're stamping they add touch/emotion and a deep soulful essence. I think in this piece, for me, having some yellow/golden trees and having that foil reflect a warm golden light back up into them from below kind of radiates some extra warmth (touch). I think I've used the gold foil for reflection cards with warm toned skies or warm papers but maybe not so much for warm/yellowish objects before this card. I liked how it came out and I've realized that I need more of this larch type of imagery so I'm working on some that can go with these cabins.
