The first football sequence is some of the most exquisite staging, cinematography, editing, scoring and sound mixing ever. That highway-speed lateral tracking shot of Forrest running down the field, the camera raking behind all those heads in the stands--then match cut to a closer shot of him running his ass off--! The score blaring 10X as jubilant as anything John Williams might have dreamed up. Seeing this in the theater in '94 made me tear up just for how elegantly it worked up our exhilaration.

This movie had just come out before attending my college orientation. They had a table full of appies, with a huge cheese section. I snickered and under my breath said, 'oh yeah, cheeEEeeese..." The girl behind me in line overheard and laughed so loud the whole room turned. I made my best college friend that day. Thanks, Old School! :D So much nostalgia. Where'd the time go!
