How are those Fender Musicmaker basses? I've been thinking of getting once just cuz they're one of the only older bass models from the 70's that you can get at an extremely affordable price
@JonnySaffordMusic3 ай бұрын
@@benhicksbass this is actually a Squier Bronco that cut back the pickguard to look like a Music Master, and rattle can painted sage green. They are both great basses for guitar players being short scale. I threw flatwounds on this. If you can score a real 70’s Music Master cheap, grab it. It’s no Jazz Bass, but I’m no Jaco.

It sure works, but it also damages the anodized surface of the contact points. The oxidation will come back faster than it normally would. Better use contact cleaner and a q tip.
@Cognitoman3 ай бұрын
Is it because over time it oxidizes? So you need to clean the surface ?

But if it's a crackly cable... Wouldn't it make more sense to take the sandpaper to the jack of the cable... I mean I could see this working if ALL your cables are crackly for some reason. Also CRC contact cleaner is awesome shit.

That’s going to leave metal dust inside the jack. I think you’d be better off trying deoxit or maybe just plain alcohol on a qtip

How much dust lol, can’t be enough to damage the two solder joints on the input, I do this all the time and don’t have damaged parts from metal dust lol
@Loupgarou213 ай бұрын
@@firstlast6565 that jack is in the same cavity as those pots, those pots are almost certainly not sealed, over time it’s going to get into the pots and start to fuck with them, and they’re a lot harder to clean than the jack.
@aaizner8473 ай бұрын
@@firstlast6565 you're introducing conductive dust into the electronics in your guitar. It's so completely unnecessary. Just use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol. Works in seconds. Only an idiot cleans with sandpaper.

the reason why this works.. for anybody that cares.. is when you sand the metal it gets a better connection so you have less electrical problems... we do it with car hitches because the trailer generally grounds through the hitch back to the car

Why would this work?
@JonnySaffordMusic3 ай бұрын
@@ryyymyyy it’s because the outside of the input jack (and the top part of the cable) are the ground, so this makers the ground connection better.

@@JonnySaffordMusic how does sanding the metal input jack make the connection to ground better? Wouldn't it be better to take it apart and tighten it from the inside
@JonnySaffordMusic3 ай бұрын
@@ryyymyyy rust, grime and dirt build up, sanding it just cleans the metal for a better connection. It doesn’t typically need to be tighter, just cleaned.

So will these old Tascam mixers take high impedance mics? I have some old Shure PE 585s I'm trying to incorporate into recording a drum kit, but the mixers I have access to are modern & don't seem to have multiple hi-z input options & there is almost no signal. I used to use a Fostex cassette 4 track for everything, & that paired with the old cheap mics sounded perfect for the sound I like (early Link Wray/The Wailers/etc) I've been looking into getting one of these for tracking my instruments with those old crappy Shure mics to pair with a couple more modern high end room mics. Not sure if it will work the same way my beloved Fostex 4 track did though (RIP)
@JonnySaffordMusic3 ай бұрын
@@Pooky514 oooh the James Cotton mic! Yeah, they should absolutely work, this M06 takes 1/4 inch. I know the 585’s have that odd screw-in connector but many came with 1/4 cables. That should sound pretty sick.
