Will the constellations change?
@EXPLOER9087Ай бұрын
Yes, the constellations appear to change positions in the night sky over long periods of time due to a phenomenon called "precession." Precession is the gradual change in the orientation of Earth's rotational axis, which causes the positions of the stars and constellations to shift over thousands of years. As Earth spins on its axis, it wobbles like a spinning top. This wobble causes the direction of Earth's axis to slowly change over time. As a result, the position of the celestial pole-the point in the sky around which the stars appear to rotate-also changes. This affects how we see the stars and constellations from Earth's surface. For example, the North Celestial Pole is currently close to the star Polaris, also known as the North Star, which is located in the constellation Ursa Minor (the Little Bear). However, due to precession, the North Celestial Pole will gradually shift away from Polaris over thousands of years, and a different star will eventually become the North Star. Similarly, the positions of the constellations relative to each other change over time, albeit very slowly. This means that the patterns we see in the night sky today may look slightly different to observers thousands of years in the future. Overall, while the constellations may appear to change over long periods of time due to precession, they remain an enduring and fascinating feature of our night sky, connecting us to the celestial wonders of the universe.

When O was in high school, which was admittedly in the 90s though that is no time at all on a cosmic scale, the size comparison was that you could fit 3 earths in it with room to spare. The thing is getting quite a bit smaller pretty quick considering that it is known to be at least 600 years old.

Always remember it not where you are in the universe but when you are. If our civilization dates don’t match with others in the universe it will always seem as if we are alone.
