That's why it came to such a surprise that the Brits finally made good on their promise to piss off.

Humphrey's exasperating do-nothing-ism was played for laughs. It was satirical (I believe) these are the dangers of what your government MIGHT be IF...Reductio ad absurdum. These days, however if he existed he'd be a veritable Ghengis Khan of decisive action. Butt covering beyond a defensive survival tactic has become an active crusade. At least Humphrey did it all with his easy chair at the club in mind. There was material comfort and (I want to say) Scotch at the end of the day and the approval of his clandestine set.

This is still so relevant in 2024. It is most probably the most honest description of the English mindset. More so than from the politicians. Margret Thatcher days about the time of this TV series. I do not live in the UK but it was so obvious you were getting the wool pulled over your eyes regarding Brexit. Shout out to Rod Stewart; remember reading how he wanted to stay with Europe. Sings pretty good as well.

Ted Heath has a lot to answer for, for taking us in despite the opposition of Foot & Co in the Labour Party.

Simply never bettered. The writers used to take the Whitehall men for generous lunches and let them tell anonymous anecdotes. I’ll bet they loved it when their stories got into the series.

One thing Brexit did was to scare the crap out of the other EU countries, some who might have thought of leaving the EU. Now they saw the shit storm and pigs breakfast made with Brexit, that it made the EU even stronger

Going back to the eu? Seriously… A few media outlets who never expected the outcome of the referendum are peddling the agenda of Brexit remorse… it’s a big lie. If there was any remorse, why no major political party is not talking about it? As in we are about to have a general election…
