Reportedly, in her last days, Tallu practically fell into a NYC taxi wrapped in Sable. Giving the driver her destination, he glared into his mirror, exclaiming, YOU'RE Tallulah Bankhead! Taking a puff on her cigarette 🚬, she Regally responded, Frankly My DAHLING, I'm what's LEFT of Tallulah Bankhead!

Breathtaking beautiful. She looks so relaxed here. That face, smile, those eyes. She looks absolutely gorgeous! Love her with auburn hair. This is a beautiful tribute, thank you so much. I love your channel. I’ve always thought, that if she had lived into the 1980’s, that she would have been cast in one of the 80’s prime time super soaps. She would have been a natural to play the mother of Alexis on Dynasty. She would ( if she’d lived) been the right age. She would have been phenomenal! As for those Nolan Miller clothes, she was after all, the original shoulder pad girl. I always thought Nolan drew on the glamour of Joan in the 1940’s with some of his designs. Of course he did dress Joan and many of her contemporaries. He understood how to dress a woman to her best advantage. I can’t believe it’s 47 years since she died. All her films hold up well, and have stood the test of time. RIP Joan, gone, but never forgotten. You have new fans, who weren’t even born when you were alive. Thanks to channels like this on KZbin. Joan is being discovered by a younger audience.

The Smothers Brothers were liberal folkie clowns who thought they were hip...until The Who showed up and refused to take them seriously. The Who. The Best 🏆

A bloke in the pub told me they gonna do a remake of this. If they can get Ryan Reynolds to play Tommy, then maybe they can get Ed Norton to play the other one and then Susan Sarandon can possibly do Betty Davis, and then Danny DeVito will more than likely be happy to play Mickey Rooney, at which point Christopher Walkin won’t be able to resist playing Poulson just without the cowbell.

In a words of garbage reality dating shows and dumbass housewives fighting for entertainment, I sure missed the days of variety shows when people had talent.

There are some pictures earlier that day when the Who did a dress rehearsal. Keith set off the smoke bombs in his drum and it was just a little thud. Between then and the actual show, he rigged it with much more. Nobody knew how big the actual explosion would be and everyone was a little shocked. One report said Bette Davis fainted in Mickey Rooney’s arms. Another says Mickey was cheering backstage- he loved it! One of my favorite Who moments, and a highlight of the Comedy Hour.
@RichardBeing10 ай бұрын
There's a widely believed myth that when Keith Moon's drum exploded, Bette Davis was so shocked she fainted into Mickey Rooney's arms backstage, but the Smothers Brothers themselves said this never happened and Bette Davis was simply not the "fainting" type. People who didn't witness the supposed fainting (including lead singer Roger Daltrey) have retold this story over the years but it just isn't so. Dick Smothers also claimed Bette Davis was sweet on Tommy and had a bit of a crush on him, which is just adorable. Even though I'm a big Who fan, what I enjoy most about this episode is the warmth and playfulness of the two old school Hollywood stars: both of them seem to be having a great time.

The Who were self destructive, 2 died rather early from their self destructive life style. So, they were never good at being role models.
@ongogablogian856810 ай бұрын
I don't think anyone in the history of mankind ever considered Keith Moon to be a role model.

Interesting fact about the Who: They never had a number one hit; in the UK or the US.

Easy to see why Mickey Rooney was first or second choice (Jackie Gleason also considered) for the role of Archie Bunker. He turned it down.

Some jokes are cliche and dated, but overall this show was ahead of its time. The last skit satirizing gun sales is still relevant, although we might wish we still lived in a country where guns did not outnumber people and "statistically, one of the Lennon Sisters is packing heat". Brilliant.

What is it with silly people like you who must claim how dated certain things are. It's annoying. These shows are supposed to be enjoyed and respected for the time they were produced. Just keep it to yourself!
@laureliechapman126710 ай бұрын
@@MIKECNW I didn't criticize any specific part of the show, I think it was all fantastic. I was actually responding to a previous comment in which the person objected to jokes about Cass Elliot's weight. You are reading too much into what I was saying. My point was that the skit about the proliferation of guns and worship of guns was a topic even then, that some things never change. And no, I will never "keep it to" myself.

One of the best voices to ever grace the planet and she had to be the butt of the jokes. Wish we could have a do-over, Cass. Godspeed Tommy.

One of the most infamous episodes of the series was when The Who, particularly Keith Moon, blew up and destroyed their drums and equipment live. The resulting carnage was so intense that Bette Davis reportedly fainted into Mickey Rooney's arms. Rest in peace, Tommy Smothers.
