Been there, Matt. I know I'm kinda late (I was not on KZbin :"0) but I think EDM and music in general have been losing its "uniqueness" As a big fan of Trance, Trap and Dubstep...everything is going downhill. However, look for the music you would like to review, you can give your raw opinions about them without feeling bad if you hurt someone's feelings. That's the point of the review (good and bad). Here to support you, Matt. Have a great 2020, and I hope you can find the best/worst music you can/want review. 🤗💪

Matt, I found Weekly EDM Reacts last year when I was specifically looking for it. I thought, "Hey how come there are 50 different videos of people reacting to the same hip-hop/rap song?... BUT is anyone reacting to EDM?" And boom. I found you. The EDM Reacts with you is really the only reason I'm subscribed to Sidewalk Talk. I don't really watch any of their other videos. If Matt digs a song, about 80% of the time, I dig it too. You have been opening me up to new artists and new sounds. I think we have similar tastes in EDM. You ARE pushing the EDM scene. But you don't have to make it your job/purpose to do so. I honestly don't understand why the EDM React videos don't get more views/attention/discussion. How about MONTHLY EDM Reacts ??? And if there's a lot of music you want to react to in a month, make a part 2 ! Anyway, just do what works best for you. Thanks Matt!

I think that this is something that not many people in the edm sphere want to really acknowledge - that most of edm nowadays is just artists releasing every few weeks and seeing what sticks. I typically find that artists who release very infrequently to typically be better because they care about and work on their songs so much more, and I think there is something much more special about them. For example, that new Madeon album is absolutely incredible, and he’s been working on it for years. However, there is SO much music being put out every week by different amazing underground artists that are relatively unknown (if you know where to look), and usually there will always be at least one or two songs a week that are really very special (or if we’re lucky an album like Madeon’s will drop). My advice to you is to really dig deep for artists or maybe even just ask your subscribers to give you music - you don’t even have to do it weekly if you want. Also I think making longer ep/album reactions and reviews could really be beneficial
@MatthewDemoy5 жыл бұрын
Non I agree that the most infrequent artists are at least 2x better than the frequent artists. It speaks to how great electronic music can be. The problem is that content from those types of artists are so infrequent that it is hard to build a channel around it
@Good4Josh5 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from, but I think you're just looking at it from the wrong perspective. There's plenty of innovative electronic music that's pushing the scene forward - you just have to find it. There's more music out there than ever before, I promise. I think your issue is that you feel obligated to review the most popular artists in the EDM scene - and a lot of them aren't making the most interesting music. Maybe instead of "reaction" videos, you can just do weekly reviews of the best/ok/worst tracks of artists that you find yourself caring about. Don't worry about what people think, just talk about music that matters to you.
@MatthewDemoy5 жыл бұрын
Good4Josh i do want to review music that’s relevant tho. The scene is only so big and if I only review music outside the most popular %10 the time investment vs growth isn’t worth it. There is allot of great music out there tho that’s for sure
@Seenic_5 жыл бұрын
I think you're right. It took me a while to understand that the scene is beginning to get very saturated right now with lots of crazy projects flying around. Its definitely an exciting time but when you talk about reviewing an album that took 5 years to produce vs a huge riddim banger that a few big names collabed on for a few hours. The amount of depth in a review is very important to the quality and integrity of a review, it's easy to just gloss over all these tracks and say "good song". Big respect for being patient, waiting for music that you are passionate about to release to be able to give a solid in depth review. I will take that over forced and boring content any day. However I do think maybe doing a smaller sample size weekly with less analytics OR cutting the videos to biweekly / monthly schedule could be a very beneficial approach. That way each track has its respective time to be listened to, and you can build up a larger collection of quality music for more in depth review. Sidewalk / the whole series could use a shift in branding & direction. A Fresh new look could go a long way for reviving your passion for the series. Or even taking it as an alternating collaboration series, with more people to give a broader spectrum of opinions and preference from a larger group of different biases. Big props, big respect <3 Hope my ideas aren't too out there xd Love from CO!

Yeah I get what you mean, for me personally 50% of electronic music is meh, 45% is decent and then only like 5% is great/amazing, and with albums the majority of songs tend to be alright, the only album that has come out this year where I think the majority of the songs are great is Illenium’s album Ascend. Don’t force yourself to upload videos unless you are enjoying making them and feel the songs are worth being talked about.

I think you could try some different things. For example On insta or something you should have the subscribers recommend music that they've listened to that they think is worth sharing, then you can pick some and give us ur opinion on them. Then you can continue the weekly react but less often such as you take a month or 2 to compile songs and make a video but weekly or every other week release a video of songs recommended by subscribers.

Anthony Hernandez allot of people send me music to listen to and honestly it makes me uncomfortable to call stuff that people enjoy bad or disinteresting. Would be cool to have a group of a few folks that I could depend on to send fire though.
