what does ECM mean in regards to ff8 speedruns? I can't find this out anywhere for the life of me.

@@JasonX638 ECM refers to the strategy 'Early Card Mod'. Basically you get the 50 AP from XATM in Dollet so you learn card mod sooner than normal. This changes some fights, namely Diablos.

Best to fight it no? You can farm AP, granted you’ll need to re grind for Diablos skills but 50 ap every time you make him repair and then flatten him again and run you’ll get another 50 ap and so on

Yes you could indeed do that. I have other videos and guides on how to kill him also. However in the speedrun, we can actually 'defeat XATM' for the 50 AP on the first forced encounter outside the Communications Tower. Then he continues to chase us out of Dollet, which is why we need this information to avoid extra encounters.

@@awesomewavesit is the optimization of braking, taking turns well, positioning on the road etc. I got my 58:22 with only about 10 runs.

hi sorry for all the questions, i cant seem to get background inputs to work on my ps5 controller with the HD remaster but it works with the vanilla PC version

This specific tutorial is for the 2013 release. If you are interested in speedrunning the game I would say it has better resources than the HD version and might be worth looking into if you already own it.

yeah i have ended up just using the 2013 version to keep it simple :) have you ever had a 2 anacondaur encounter after the single one on the way up to the radar tower in Dollet? just had it happen and never seen it before haha @@awesomewaves

Correct, the guide includes the first 3 frames which contain Q card if you mash fast enough. There is also another guide on my channel for EarlyQ and 2nd try Zell which might show you some other options to get EarlyQ card. @@Dienex

youre an absolute legend for this. i got a 8bitdo pro+ today that ive been struggling to set up, this method works and now the controller works with FF8 and Chrono Trigger. Thanks for sharing, saved me a big headache :)
