I believe your correct. A micro micro bevel on the Katsu if it does have one. Looks more like a straight edge like a whittling knife. And the miki does just have a V edge
@Zeratsu
@Zeratsu 6 ай бұрын
@@WisJordan ok, actually, it deserves a credit, because a convex grind is a lot harder to do and is more expensive to do. Personally, I saw a true convex only on fixed knives like the Bark River and only Rockstead does it on folders as far as I know. And of course on Traditional Scandi and Yakut knives.

This axe was meant for cutting down trees not splitting wood. You’re going to break that axe one day if you continue to abuse it that way.
@WisJordan
@WisJordan 6 ай бұрын
I wouldn't call the Trail Boss a felling axe and I also wouldn't call it a splitting axe. It's a small camp or back packing axe that will handle many jobs but do non of them as good as a axe designed for said job. And being only around 30 bucks it's a great all around axe for the value. Also if you notice in the background there is a 40 plus pound spilting maul and on the boat trailer I have spilting wedges too. Those being used for the big log spilting duties. This is a review not a how to video. Thanks for watching It's been 8 years since this video and I still have the trail boss and still use it. And again for 30 bucks I beat the crab out of it and she's still going strong.

To remove drive shift handle lifting HARD is not easy. Solution that DID work. 1. Emergency brake up all the way. 2. Battery Disconnected. 3. Ignition with key turned on enough to move shift handle upright 4. into gear Drive (3). Free cover plate w/ light and drive numbers , then ROTATE 360 degrees so the light and gear view fixture is on the wrong passenger side. 6. Put a mouse pad on the NON-Light drive cover part; wrap a small economy car (HONDA) jack in an old tee; then place it between the base and the handle with a dense sponge (Mr. Clean eraser) between the top of the jack and the bottom of the handle. 7. While one person with the strongest hands holds the button in and the jacket under the handle and keeps them together, another person carefully turns the jack up slowly until the handle just goes pop. For those with less muscles and needing a safer option to remove the fixture and not damage person or fixtures. It worked for us old weaklings. On 98 Grand Cherokee LT

@@shaunweiss9484 I haven't carried it much since it doesn't have a pocket clip so it mostly is a bench top knife. But the few times I have carried it either in the belt sheath or just in my pocket it carries well. Better comfort when it is in the belt sheath. In the pocket isn't bad either since it's somewhat slim and has soft rounded edges. I enjoy both knifes but the Miki feels better to beat on everyday and the katsu stays at home staying pretty lol

Good morning. I am just starting to whittle and or carve. I have only done 2-3 small pieces. Have a lot to learn and just like anything practicing should help! Just think its cool to take a piece of wood and turn it into something. Need to find time to start back up though. Hoping to. I was gifted one of these knives this year-i bought it and had my wife give it to me for Christmas from my daughters-it was half off and it was $87.99 at a store called Woodcraft $175.99 regular price. Hope to use it soon. Thank you for the video! Have a good day

I hope your carving / whittling takes off and I'm sure your hobby will grow along with your skill. Beaver Craft and Morakniv are other brands of wood carving that I recommend checking out if your ever look for more tools to add to your collection. Have a good one, thanks for the comments, and stay sharp 👍

Thanks for the review. Just by the sound of it, that Log is pretty hard. I don’t know if you were trying to cut V notches or not. It kind of looked like you weren’t, but at any rate, I think it may need a more acute edge. It may be a bit too blunt at this time. It was still very useful information for me. You should make a video showing how well they shine up with black shoe polish even though most of the shiny leather is gone. Is leather supposed to have the outer layer rub off or is it that plastic leather/pleather?

It happens. The humidity is different over there than it is over here, so the wood shrinks. Peen it back down after it acclimates and it'll be fine. There's nothing wrong with stick tangs on these knives. These people have been using stick tangs since the victorian age. I have 4 kukris. 2 full tangs and 2 stick tangs. 1 from GK&Co, 2 from KHHI, and 1 from Kailash. I can't see anyone being harder on a knife than me and I've never had any problems from mine. I have 1 with a stick tang on my go bag and I'd trust my life to it. I see someone in the comments say they're "tourist kukris." People hear things then just regurgitate it. Surplus military kukris that are well over a 100 years old are big, heavy, thick, and they have stick tangs.
@dougparkhurst279
@dougparkhurst279 2 жыл бұрын
True that. Gurkhas have been stacking bodies in warfare and hacking out a living in some of the most inhospitable inhabited terrain on Earth for literal centuries - using kukris with partial-length stick tangs secured only with natural glue. Obviously a full-length tang will be stronger, a full flat tang (panawal) even more so, but this design is universally respected for good reason.
@dougparkhurst279
@dougparkhurst279 2 жыл бұрын
You can tighten the butt cap by tapping the tang end with a hammer. I've had a couple of GK&Co. kukris with loose end caps that I was able to tighten up nicely. Stick the tip gently into a log or stump that won't move and strike the end of the tang at the centre of the diamond-shaped keeper until it's tight. A few gentle taps should suffice; if you must increase the force, do so as gradually as possible until you get the handle as tight as you like. I had one GK kukri break at the blade/tang joint after only a few chops but my other three have held up well. Their Panawal (full flat tang) models are absolute tanks. They would break me long before I broke them. KHHI kukris are roughly in the same price range but their quality seems to be more consistent and they have a solid reputation among kukri enthusiasts. I only own one of theirs (the GI5), but I am very impressed with it and plan to buy more from them.

Smh hate when companies don't try to keep there customers happy. I haven't used mine much since making this video. But being as thick as the blade is I can see it snapping if there's any weak spots in the blade/tang
@Harmony-Hub-S2
@Harmony-Hub-S2 2 жыл бұрын
Just an advice, instead of just hitting it on the wood deliberately, try stopping the strike according to how deep the blade can go in the wood. By doing this, it will be more effective chopping wood and it will spare the edge a lot more. It's not about how strong you hit, but how you hit it. Control your strength 💪
@WisJordan
@WisJordan 2 жыл бұрын
For normal use I fully agree. I was trying to give the whole knife (handle, blade, pins, ect) a fairly heavy beating to make sure it wouldn't break under normal conditions. To many cheap knives out there that look and sound like it's built to last. Then the moment you need it to work, it breaks and your up a certain creek without a paddle

It wasn't butter knife dull but the factory edge definitely is not as sharp as it could be. Another factor is I'm no Kukri swinging pro. But in any case (dull and or inexperienced) you got a 2 pound metal bar to bash through anything, given enough time lol.
