I don’t think it’s right or necessary to compare Man O’ War and Secretariat. They are the 2 greatest race horses of all time. They raced in very different eras with different challenges. There is a wilder look in Man O’War’s eye than Secretariat’s. They do have similar builds. I absolutely adore Secretariat, but Man O’War is always first in my heart.

I still believe that Man O' War could out run Secretariat, though it would be an awesome race! Man O' War's stride was measured at 28 feet to Secretariat's 25 foot stride. Man O' War's furthest win length was 100' to Secretariat's 31'. Man O' War was given unbelievable weights to carry. Not sure about Secretariat. Secretariat is a great great great(?) grandson of Man O' War, they both inherited the same nick name of Big Red. To me, he will always be the bestest horse ever!

Sadly, so many racehorses are abused. Running medicated with pain medicine and performance-enhancing drugs. I wonder how today's racehorses would compete against legends like this.

Truly, as if sketched from the gods themselves ( in a very good mood). The Bedouins, founders of the Arabian horse from which the Thoroughbred breed are descendants of three stallions Darley, Byerley Turk & Godolphin Arabian named after their owners. Excellent reading in & of themselves own unique stories. These age-old, fervent admirers of all things equine exclaiming how noble & majestic the horse, wrote poems of the horse, highly esteeming the animals, as glorious embodiments of the wind itself let among mortals.

Man O’ War was faster than Secretariat, and certainly more consistent, AND he wasn’t under the influence of performance enhancing drugs like Secretariat was. @@theOlLineRebel clearly you've never worked in the race industry. I have, and sustained PTSD being ordered to place babies on the slaughter truck when they break down. Being tortured to death and hung on a meat hook because you were forced to run with weight on your back as a baby, is not "survival". Canada and Mexico dismember horses while they are conscious, over 300,000 annually. What the hell are you talking about. You're supporting organized crime. Race horses are treated by the criminals as well as they treat their sex workers and Greyhounds. As profitable, disposable MEAT.

@@bl7817 What an angry person you are. No, I haven't. I'm just a casual fan, who studies history alot, of the sport. I was replying to your comment about RACING at 2. Not slaughter. And it still stands - horses have been racing at 2 for centuries. I'm sorry you experienced such things, but what numbers do you have about this? How many are killed? I know you'll attack me for daring to ask such unemotional questions, but they are legitimate, as much as statistics are important for declaring anything bad - including the US and how its own people try to make it out like we are a horrible nation based on a couple street incidents. Because with people, nothing will ever be "zero" so using a few incidents doesn't really tell the story. And how do you know about org. crime? Why aren't you reporting it? You can say it on an internet forum, but we have no reason to believe you (it would not stand in a court of law) and it's just libel. More details, if you want to be credible.

@@theOlLineRebel yes, I am very proud of being angry at race horses, all horses, being butchered alive. Why aren't you? And if you are allegedly a student of history, why have you not read the stats with the Departments of Agriculture and the USDA re: horse slaughter? There are reams of evidentiary documents on government websites and in archives, including countless photos, videos and veterinary testimony. Why don't I report organized crime? To whom? God, your self righteous ignorance is just more pain for those of us who DO things for the horses. I have petitioned to the point my political reps table mine in the House! I receive threats that I will be shot in the face, by the evil pricks who profit from abusing these noble animals. You sit at home and do careless, shallow "research" that doesn't scratch the surface. If you are unable to even decipher gov't websites, you are at least on KZbin, where horse slaughter videos and the racing connection is widely available. I guess you're too busy with your stupid, false conspiracy videos that distract you from issues with hard evidence. Such an easy life. You are not a horse lover, a horseman, nor any type of researcher.

Excuse me, but I'm much more angry about treasonous communists taking over the US and they butcher people without a thought. Enough.

Incredible that this beast won all but one race in his career given the how much more weight that Man O'War was forced to carry against the other horses in the field in most of his races is incredible. Whether Secretariat was as talented is difficult to say because of the decades of difference in their age. But I know he carried far more weight in his races than horses like Secretariat or Citation were forced to carry against their opposition.

The word upset was about stomach issues, in beating Big Red the horses name took on new meaning, very tired of hearing people say upsets name was ironic, its more significant than that. Wish people would do a little research instead of listening to what others are saying and then perpetuating misinformation.

I read his biography when I was a teenager. I was following the races at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park because I was reading the racing page in the newspapers. I had some favorites back then: Buckpasser, Affectionately, and a good local allowance horse named Real Good Deal. Man o War is the greatest of all time to me, Man o War winning by 100 lengths is incredible. My favorite of all time is Affirmed because he refused to give up when a horse got near to him in the stretch.

I had a great grandson of Man of War--out Mr Busher, by War Admiral, by Man of War. His name was Recoledger. He had a great track record from Turf and Sport. Sadly before he could reach his potential he was in a track accident. When I bought him he was 11 yrs old and only been taken off the track for six months. The woman we bought him from didn't know what she had. My wife asked if she had his papers and the woman gave them to us. My wife confirmed his number tattoo on his upper lip. The woman had his five cross and my wife took one look and said, "sold." We stood him at stud and found that his off spring loved to jump. We only bred him to one thoroughbred mare and the foal won his first race. I don't know what happen to that horse. We were forced to sell Rex, as we called him, and they didn't take care of him. They had to put him down.
