I was at this show this past Sunday!!! I distinctly remember hearing the guy yell "no one wants to see your phone!" haha So I came earlier this year in June and of course they didn't start the nighttime show until a week after I left. I come back in a couple of weeks for HHN but of course it's not showing during that time so I found some time off this past weekend to come into town specifically to see this and it was worth it! That was from the end of the early evening KNBC-TV newscast from April 1, 2006. The camera views were, in order of appearance, the San Fernando Valley camera, the Long Beach camera, the San Bernardino Mountains camera with the skiers, the Santa Catalina Island camera with the Casino Building off to the right side, and ending on the Downtown Los Angeles camera, showing a live look at the skyscrapers and freeway traffic as it was as the early Saturday evening news broadcast was coming to an end. The live cameras showing outdoor scenes from various vantage points in the Los Angeles region had become a common way to end local Los Angeles news broadcasts beginning in the late 1990s and having expanded by the 2000s, as shown in this 2006 example. That went way beyond the in-studio news set and anchor camera ends to local Los Angeles news broadcasts with the news themes playing in the background, which had been the standard way that local news broadcasts would end before that era. You could often notice the red light going off on the in-studio video camera that filmed the in-studio camera close as the news broadcast had ended for the evening and the late night local news broadcasts as well.
