Loved this pedal idea instandly and build it myself with the same parts as in the video of McPherson, but its stealing my whole bass signal and sound of my guitar😮. Any ideas how to fix that?
@musicalmiscellany16 сағат бұрын
You are putting a buffered bypass pedal directly in front of it correct?
@letterboxsalvationofficial36016 сағат бұрын
@musicalmiscellany yes, of course, but even then..
@musicalmiscellany15 сағат бұрын
@@letterboxsalvationofficial360 Is it possible your transformer is in backwards? You want it to step up the signal, not step it down. With the 42TM019 you want the primary side towards the pot but if you're using a different transformer, you might need the primary toward the switch (depending on the spec of the transformer). Some transformers step up, some step down, and some are level on both sides. The 42TM019 is a step-down transformer with 600 on the secondary side and 10,000 on the primary side, thus creating boost as the signal passes through it in reverse (primary towards pot). If I put this same transformer in with the primary towards the switch, the audio would be barely audible. Does that make sense?
@letterboxsalvationofficial36015 сағат бұрын
@@musicalmiscellany thanks for your quick response. The transformer is facing the pot with the p-side. Like McPherson showed us in his video and the transformer is the TL019, with 10k primary and 600 secondary. Its boosting good but only the mids and highs and the bass gets totally lost.
@musicalmiscellany15 сағат бұрын
@@letterboxsalvationofficial360 It sounds like you've either got a bad connection or a faulty component that's somehow filtering out those lows. I'd probably re-flow all the solder just to make sure all your connections are solid. If that doesn't fix it, meter the pot to make sure it's in spec, then meter the transformer, and also check the in/out jacks & switch for continuity. There just aren't many components in this circuit so if all the connections are solid it's probably a bad transformer or a bad pot. FYI, it's not unusual for a transformer to cause a little bit of a mid boost/bass reduction but honestly, I don't really notice on mine. It doesn't feel anemic when I engage the boost. If the bass drain is extreme, it's probably an out of spec component.

the question thats on everyones mind is how much did you pay for such a DG-1 I will possible get a dg 10 for $300 and wonder if its a good price.
@musicalmiscellany16 сағат бұрын
I don't remember exactly but I know it was between $300 and $400. In 2022, that was a little higher than these were selling for on eBay/Reverb but this one was rare with the original manual, warranty card, gig bag, and A/C plug. Those accessories alone will cost you a couple hundred (and that's if you can find them). I'd say $300 for a DG-10 in decent shape seems quite reasonable.

what would different cap values do? i have a free .047 cap on the way and wonder how that would work in this mod.
@musicalmiscellanyКүн бұрын
Thanks for watching. Different capacitor values should make the rate slower or faster. A smaller value than I used would make it less slow and a larger value would make it more slow. My value was 1.0 µF and yours is 0.047 µF so it's probably not going to do much at all (but you never know 'til you try). I mentioned in the video that I'd probably try a 0.680 µF cap if I was to do this mod again.

A cool little instrument, but it has a bad habit of falling apart. The keyboard easily scratches, the stylus wire is too short and breaks easily, and the pitch strip is also fragile. The tuning is like herding cats, and the plastic quality isn't the best. I know this because I got one. This is very strange, since the standard Stylophone (which I aquired later) feels much sturdier and reliable, despite costing about half the price. A true shame, really. I hope Dubreq revises it soon, as I really loved this thing when it worked. (Just a note, I used this same comment under another review video for the gen x-1)
@musicalmiscellany3 күн бұрын
@@mr.9931 I definitely agree about the stylus wire. I don’t know why they didn’t just make that an inch longer. It’s an easy things to replace but still. Huge oversight. Thanks for checking out my vid.

@musicalmiscellany I wanted to say that I find your dedication to the stylophone to be impressive and entertaining, and I'd like to thank you for filling the history gaps well. In addition to info on the gen x-1, I've recently noticed that it's currently out of stock or currently unavailable from every official Dubreq online store and has been for quite some time. Perhaps they're finally replacing it with something better! After all, it's currently the oldest stylophone product currently in production, and even Amazon notes that it's a "frequently returned item," so its fragility must be understood by Dubreq.

I have a first version Blackstar ID: Core stereo 40 which a will soon add a pair of switched 24" jacks because the amp is in fact stereo abd has a oair of 4 0hm 6.5: speakers so 2 jacks that will drive a pair of external speaker cabs that i will build and be sure that the impedance is 4 ohms for each cab.. thes will be vertical tower cabs that will have any sizee speakers from 6.5 full range up to 12" woofers but any version I build will be ported to get some bass regardless of the speaker size i use. 12" or 10" will be 4X 8" will be 6X and 6.5" will be 8X with the port in the middle half way down the front of the cabs. I have designs for all but haven't decided what size speakers I will use. when the external speaker jacks are in use they will disable th internal speakres so I can stnd the cabs side by side and lay the amp on top face down with the controls facing forward. so in effect I will have a 'Full Stack' or the cabs can stand to either side of my 100" screen on the wall for my home theater projector and the they can also be hooked into the system through a custom switching box i designed for that as well I can choose both the source and destination with the switching box so i can go from amp to surround system CD input and to all the speakers including the external tower cabs and the powered subwoofer too.. The guitar is a severely modified "Starcaster"- "Strat Electric Guitar By: Fender" with a custom stars and Planets outer space theme paint on both the body and head stock is complemented by the hand made brushed stainless steel extended pick guard that covers the extended control cavity that was needed tp accommodate the 3 quad rail/coil humbuckers and the 6 500K pots , 4 are P/P and 2 regular. 3 of the P/P are for Vol.. and coil split. the 2 regulars are tone ant the last P/P in the bridge tone pos. is also to activate the bridge and neck Pickups together regardless of any other controls. I upgraded from the PCB 5-way switch to a Fender 5-way blade switch. the total control circuit all works as designed. basic wiring is Like a '50's Les Paul with coil splits and I used ,047 orange drop tome caps for that clean bright Strat like tone that is enhanced by the coil splits as well. I simply added a 3rd pot paifor the 3rd pickup in my guitar. The pots are in 2 crescent rows to 3, with the upper for Vol and the lower for tone. The output jack in also mounted in the pickguard just behind the Bridge which got a new full size brass sustain block and roller saddles. the headstock got a titanium nut, roller string tree and licking tuners. I oriented the active coils when split so that the active coils are toward the bridge for the afore mentioned clean bright Strat Like tone. the 9-46 set of strings is tuned to E-Flat just like any 'Good' Strat should be tuned.. the number of tones available from this unique and very cool guitar are too many t even try to count, and when added to what is available from the tony stereo amp with all it's built in effects and available online programing from the "Architect" software to modify and adjust them , well there we are...
