Also, it seems like the industry is moving towards Aptera's solar panels, have you thought about moving towards them? They can generate over 1000 on PolyDrop's campers. Just an idea.

An engineer who designed the Bristol Fighter supercar said the reason it looks so unique is because they wanted to make it aerodynamically stable when receiving side winds, as happens in the real world. Go see pictures of that car and you'll see clear similarities between its shape and the Bowlus, especially in the top half: round front, angled sides, and tapered rear section.

Not a bad little unit. I would like to see a back up camera option and perhaps a security camera mount offered from the factory at this price. It would also be great for some type of outdoor kitchen option so you don't have to cook inside the camper if you are cooking fish or seafood. It already has the propane just need cooking surface and perhaps a water connection to enjoy outside cooking and entertaining.

Years of pulling a single axle airstream makes me wonder - where is the spare tire? You need a pickup to haul this with just to have a place for your lawn chairs, miscellaneous gear, etc.

Fantastic video, truely awesome travel trailers. Love that you are using Victron components, I installed those in our trailer, but they may not be as well integrated as yours which are designed from the ground up. Now, on board water is required to stay off grid. Do you supply water containers for customers to bring their own drinking water? 20 gal is not enough for drinking and washing dishes and the bit required for toilet flushing. Showering while off grid would be very difficult with the limited water as well. The living room area is fantastic and the bedroom interesting. Would custom sheets be required? Also are the leveling jackets attached to the frame orbthe skin? If the skin wouldn't that denti the skin with an over cranked leveling jack? I really want to think these great trailers will actually function for camping off grid but we have learned that once the elctrical power is taken carenof water is the prime limitation. Any thoughts or further infomation would be appreciated. Finally do you have dealers in Canada?
@FreynightwalkerАй бұрын
Beautiful, limited storage and a low amount of water on board, which would limit off grid time. So these things would take some serious rethinking of gear taken. Do you need custom sheets for the bed? It does not look like a traditional king bed.

Such a beautiful, well crafted and innovative trailer! I have owned and lived extensively in two Airstreams during the pandemic. Bowlus's design makes the most sense, everything is high quality and well thought out. I can assure you that the Bowlus may not have all the bells and whistles, but it has everything you will ever need and it can last for generations. Really hope some day I can effort to own one, the latest Rivet seems to be a perfect companion for my Defender :)

We understand the Bowlus is not for everyone. Unlike Airstream, we make over 70% of our own parts and the build quality is unmatched. The Bowlus is designed to last generations. Did you know Airstream is owned by Thor and uses all the same components?

Not sure how many people realize that the reason RVs have double axles is because single axle trailers are very prone to jack-knifing. All it's takes is wind from the wrong angle and single axle trailers are all over the road.
@Bowlus3 ай бұрын
This is a common misconception. The Bowlus is safer and better designed with a single axle as weight determines needs. With the Bowlus' weight distribution and a lower center of gravity, sway is never an issue. Additionally, two axles greatly compromise interior layout, reduces interior space and cost twice as much to replace and maintain.
@stevewainwright33443 ай бұрын
I beg to differ I've had lowboy utility trailers that have a much lower center of gravity than this one, and the single axle still would get to jackknifing sometimes. But my lowboy double axle never did. Besides being better for hauling weight, double-axle trailers are just more stable at higher speeds. Even airstreams have double axles and they're basically the same type of trailer.@@Bowlus

RV trailer tires hold a load capacity specific to each tire. In the case of a Bowlus, with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 4,000 pounds for the Volterra, we use Goodyear Endurance 205R15 at 65psi with a load; this equates to 2150 lbs. per tire. This dictates just one axle and two tires. A 25’ Airstream, on the other hand, has a GVWR of 7600 lbs. For such a heavy travel trailer, two axles and four tires are required. While an Airstream may look visually similar to a Bowlus from a distance, the two are not at all the same. First, we start by making our own aluminum frame, which allows for our monocoque construction and ultralight design. Next, we do not primarily use RV parts. Instead we opt for marine and aircraft materials. Our iconic shell is crafted from 2024 aluminum-which is, for example, the same material used to construct a Boeing jet. Our aluminum is 5-6 times the price of softer, dentable aluminum used in an Airstream. Our interior is real wood, compared to Airstream’s paper or plastic veneer. Our rivets are aircraft-grade. Many of our parts (electrical system, electrical monitoring system, power converter, inverter, lighting fixtures, showerhead, sinks, etc.) are marine-grade, meaning they are long lasting and extremely durable. In other words, we build the Bowlus to last many generations.

Great video and very informative. Just wondering if the jacks are auto-level for setting it up. The future of small TT's for sure.
@Bowlus3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. We find auto-leveling jacks to be one of the common points of failure on RVs, so we go with hand-crank stabilizers instead. Because the Bowlus is so lightweight and easy to maneuver - with a hitch weight under 200 lbs and an adjustable jockey wheel - getting the Bowlus level is super easy.

The interior really feels like the inside of a jet. I don't like the outside look but the inside, while a little claustraphobic, does look very nice. Bigger galley would be ideal but I get it, they have to be very careful about the utilization of space and weight. Def seems more appealing than an airstream but I like airstream exteriors more.

I love to quality of the construction, the bathroom is very clever, the kitchen for someone like myself that loves to cook is lacking. The induction stove is fine but there is no oven just a microwave. For me that would be unacceptable. There is no awning for outside shade while camping. This vehicle is for traveling to the outdoors, so where are the features to enjoy the outdoors? Fantastic quality, but you need to work on some features. You claim because of the efficiency you could be off grid for two weeks but you only have 20 gallons of fresh water. With that refrigerator you would run out of food. I don't see a way to haul camping chairs or the BBQ you say you could hood up to the outside propane optional equipment. The furniture does look comfortable, great for early morning and night but again how is this designed to enjoy the outdoors you hauled it to?
@Bowlus4 ай бұрын
We did not demo it in this video, but the Bowlus features an optional awning that attaches to a rail on either side of the trailer. We agree - this is an important feature for being able to enjoy the outdoors.

For those who are used to long off grid camping trips, your tow vehicles are always utilized for additional water, misc storage and non-refrigerated food stuff. Just be mindful of your gear and stay within the weight limits of your tow vehicle. Also, items like folding chairs, hiking/biking/ski gear, grill, etc can be easily secured inside while on the road. My son's Rivian has a Gear Tunnel and my SUV has plenty of extra space, no problem. I don't see how anything other than your need for an oven as being an issue with off grid camping in a Bowlus. Perhaps a solar oven? I've never used one so if anyone else with experience could help you out there it would be nice. I use a cast iron Dutch oven and the campfire for biscuits, cornbread, bread and other "baked" recipes. I know that the Bowlus is super well-made luxury++ compared to camping to a solar AirStream that's been modified for longer off-grid camping trips.
