I want also to add that while Algiers had benefited from taking tributes from the US and most of the european nations, it's main source of wealth was still it's trade. Many trade treaties for exporting coral, wood and wheat between the regency of Algiers and France & Britain still exist. Trade between the Maghrebi states and those south of the Sahara were also documented. So it's wrong to say it's wealth had came from one source like tributes. After all, the main reason Algeria and France had went to war in the first place was because France failed to pay it's depts to Algiers due to the wheat trade.
