I recently bought a stethoscope from TEMU just for home use. It’s cheap but still I figured I wasn’t doing something right. I was trying to wear it backward. Your video was helpful and now that I know to turn the head, I find that it actually works well even though it was so cheap.

I can't tell you how much this has opened my eyes to what's to come. I just accepted an offer at our Level 1 Trauma Hospital's Med.-ICU. I am ecstatic about this dream come true, but am nervous about the unknown and eager at the same time, Lol! That said, I thank you for giving me a peek behind the curtain. I will be diving into your "ICU Breakthrough" course ASAP. Thanks again, and God Bless!!!

New grad here, just did 2 days in tele med surg, what an eye opener it was ! This episode along with my teachers on the floor really helped me clicked things together. Can’t wait to check out your cardiac nurse program Kati. Love your channel, knowledge and guests .

This is sooo good first time listener here something I think would be an awesome podcast is having all these basics as importance when it comes to nursing home care. I think us LTC nurses often get forgot about but we still have tasks such as incentives. LTC are truly becoming mini med surg units with the level of pt we’re expected to maintain. For critical people it’s not just everyone’s grandma and grandpa that’s unable to live at home.

My mom worked 17 years in medsurge and said it was more stressful than giving birth. She now works as an iv nurse at a berkley eye center. Medsurge nurses are so powerful and strong❤❤

Thank you for this video. I was a bedside nurse for 15 years working in everything from MedSurg to Intermediate and recently accepted a position in the ICU a couple of weeks ago. When I got my first real critical care patient I felt like a brand new nurse again, felt like I didn’t know anything and lost all of my confidence immediately. I wasn’t sure that stepping out of my comfort zone in nursing to grow & develop as an ICU nurse was the right decision. I’ve now taken another approach at the orientation phase and it’s good to hear someone like yourself validate all of those things I was feeling in that moment. So thank you for putting this video out there, so nurses like myself can have realistic expectations and approach the ICU with confidence and the right frame of mind to soak up all of the new information.

I wish I had saw this video while working at Bestbuy. The management constantly referred to us as family, overtime was expected and unpaid for. Management would push you to sell, sell, sell, as if you were getting paid commission. Eventually I got laid off for no reason other then cost cuts. The family red flag is real, and unfortunately I was too young to realize it back then.

Just a question, is it not the pysicians responsibility to consider this when prescribing treatment? With how much saline should be given and how quickly?

So weird to talk aboht med surg all together like this. There are so many diffeent floors. Neuro post and pre op, gastrosurgical post and pre op, neurology, infection wards etc. Im not American so maybe there is something Im missing. But its very different patients on a surgical floor than a ward typically. Different procedures and work day as well

I remember some of my nurses from my time in the ICU. I cried sometimes but they were very supportive and believed my hallucinations. Of course they sound strange to them but when you’re in that state they are real to you. Hallucinations can happen with a mixture or dehydration, hunger and anxiety

Is there a way to get part time and prn jobs as a new grad? I'm fine with a regular orientation, but I'm caring for a sick parent at home, so a full time, rotational job isn't right for me.

Such great information! I was an L&D Nurse for 7 years until I totally crashed and burned. I was fortunate to quickly find work outside of healthcare but swore I was never coming back to nursing. Healing didnt happen overnight, I really struggled with the loss of my career and severe depression. It took over a year to finally feel like myself again. I'm finally ready to return as a travel nurse this coming January. Podcasts like this are helping me prepare to return with a new mindset, new drive and new energy.

I am in my first nursing job on a med-surg unit in a small rural hospital. We don’t have CNAs, and we draw our own labs. Many days we don’t have RT either. I’m in my 5th month, and I’m FINALLY starting to get a handle on the stuff that CNAs would do in bigger hospitals-occupied bed changes, being efficient with getting vitals on everyone, giving bed baths, toileting, etc. Talk about feeling unprepared! On a normal day, our unit has two nurses, so that means when you need help with a two-person task, you often have to wait because the other nurse is with her patients. The other thing is I’m a new nurse at the ripe age of 52. Patients tend to assume I have authority and experience, and explaining that I’m still pretty new and learning can be just weird. Lastly, my coworkers are much younger. We’re only just now starting to feel comfortable. I’d love it if you could address one or all of these issues at some point. I love the podcast. Thanks for what you do.

Not Only assertiveness by the ability to not show when you are bothered even better the ability to not be bothered in the first place. Instead, keep your mind set that you’re there to learn, and they are not going to get in the way of that. Let them have their attitude say whatever snarky remark, but you continue to follow them like a shadow and learn. just get it done. most of the time people who bully other people do it for the reaction. If you don’t have a reaction, it literally deflate them.
