I was obsessed with Quest 64. I was also too young to know that I should read text in video games. Lol. I loved Quest 64.

It's full of faults, but had some good ideas...albeit horribly implemented. A combat/magic system like that but everything far better balanced would still be great.

Tears of the Kingdom itterated on Breath of the Wild massively this is true, but it in no way evolved from Breath of the Wild like a true sequel should, Tears of the Kingdom was basically a pallet swap and the same side quest copy pasted 100 times for padding with a story that simply went nowhere important enough to warrent the hours played to see it.

In short, blind by nostalgia. I find old zelda artstyle lame, say however you want, that is just game standard today
@TumblrCats12 күн бұрын
So game standard is letting you do whatever you want, for it to get boring in 2 hours, copy and paste side quest, no rewards, a wack ass story, barely any meaning and urgency on anything you do in the game and lame ass NPCs that you don't want to interact with at all after a while? Sir, that is a low standard.

I'm so relieved to see all those opinions! I'm also a die hard Zelda fan, and still consider that Twilight Princess was the last good one. It's sadening me the direction it took. And still, i have hope for the future.

“Subsequent Lego titles would impress less and less…” While Lego Batman is onscreen. That and Lego Indiana Jones brought something new to the table and refined the gold standard set by Lego Star Wars, making up the Holy Trinity of Lego games. They all sit comfortably alongside each other in terms of aesthetics, charm, and gameplay.

botw characters were never that interesting to begin with? absolutely disagree I insanely adore the main cast in botw (even though main story in totk was done very poorly)

Quest RPG: Brian’s Journey is the adaptation you might be looking for - Game Boy Color, and it’s the same story and style, but you now require elements from multiple sources to cast a spell. Healing Lvl 1 requires seven elements total, but it has to be split between Water and Earth. It also suffers from insufficient good translation, and the element XP system doesn’t scale correctly. You will easily fill your elements in this version.

I think Quest 64’s level up system mentally prepared me for final fantasy II, whose PR is my current brain fixation. On my fourth playthrough, and after that fourth I’m already ready for my fifth with a completely different build planned :)

In games, my primary motivation is to optimize my strength. Funny story about me: I played Final Fantasy 6 all the way through MANY times since childhood. Before killing Kefka (final boss) I would grind and level my characters in the most optimal way possible. I found the grind to be exhilarating. But once I was overwhelmingly powerful and knew that I could wipe the floor with him (or any boss), I just stopped. So I "beat" the game like 6-7 times over many years without ever killing the end boss. It was enough for me to know that I COULD. And it wasn't worth going through the maze and taking the time to actually do it once I knew I could. I finally forced myself to do it a few years ago but it wasn't nearly as fun as the grind right before killing him. I've always approached games with a sense of "how do I get stronger" and ignoring almost everything else. This may be why overall I prefer strategy games over story-driven games generally speaking.
@Rotog24 күн бұрын
@savio_Seth I’m paraphrasing here, but I once heard that accomplishment in video games is more about mastering them rather than beating them. That’s kind of what your story reminds me of. Thanks for sharing!

Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle, thats Breath of the Wild for you in a nutshell. From the ground up it's the wrong direction for the Zelda series, and unfortunately Tears just doubled down on the new open empty world formula, adding more tears to Zelda fans.

Nah. It's always just better to move on. Besides, TOTK was a massive sales success, so there's literally no reason to do this. While I love TOTK, I agree with most of the criticism on it, and already see some improvements in EoW. I hope they keep evolving the new formula in a way that pleases most.

Ngl they prob spent like 5 years on the physics engine and year on the rest. Prob less considering majoras mask
@fatdinosaurfood8059Ай бұрын
I feel like totk was too ambitious, so they took the shortcuts without reading the game. Every complaint I see acknowledges how much potential this game had as the sequel to one of the most influential games of all time. It feels like they tried to build the great pyramids without laying the foundation. Everything would be so good with some simple fixes, (aside from story they need to fire that department). The progression you mention like the paraglider, would be so good with some dialogue to nudge you in that direction. They actually direct you to rito village for regional phenomena, but they don’t push it. It feels like the team wants to make it more linear, but the higher ups said that it has to be as open as possible. All of the great peaks are buried under the rubble of the broken foundation.

I bought a switch because I missed Zelda sooo much. I’ve played for like three hours and honestly, everything you’ve said here is how I feel. Last Zelda I played was Twilight Princess, and this, while a beautiful looking game, just feels extremely boring and tedious. I truly despise the ultra hand mechanics.
@RotogАй бұрын
@mamasboy419 I’m sorry to hear that. I’d hate to set you up for another disappointment, but if you’re still wanting a classic Zelda experience on Switch and haven’t played it already I might recommend Skyward Sword HD. It’s not as good as Twilight Princess imo but still scratches that “traditional Zelda” itch for me that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom don’t. Anyway it might be worth looking into.

First-person and platforming don't mix, but I've noticed that 3D platformers typically aren't anywhere near as good as 2D ones. They always have collectathon bs or some other gimmick to make up for the lack of great game design that you get in 2D ones. Regarding Prime, I still think it would benefit from being third-person. First-person just feels clunky.
@RotogАй бұрын
@agreedboarart3188 Even though I generally prefer 3D platformers I think I agree with you here. A lot of 2D ones are very good at focusing on and fleshing out their platforming compared to 3D. Still, the idea of a 3D third person Metroid game(that isn’t Other M) is exciting enough for me that I want them to at least try.
