It’s a shame however that so many people want to convert the 57’s into a 58. Pretty soon that’s all you’re gonna see, are 58’s. The 57 had its beauty too.

I pulled 1 of those 57 Lancers out of a spot it had been sitting in for 20years in the 1980s, outside. There was a tree growing up out of the grill. So we cut the tree out put 4 tires & wheels on it and pulled it with 67 Plymouth about 10 miles to where I tried to get it started. After doing all the usual filling up the cylinders with transmission fluid and letting it sit for about week, changed the oil, put in new sparkplugs and points, after running the battery down about 3 or 4 times before it started sounding like it wanted to run. So by that point I figured that starter wasn't going to survive the process I hooked 3 batteries in series giving it a little less than 30 volts because the middle 1 was almost dead, poured some more gas in the carb and roasted that poor little starter it was smoking and screaming and I thought for sure it was just going to lock up before the engine started, however it fooled me, that old 318 poly head started hitting on 1 cylinder then another and another and right before those batteries died completely again it was running and smoking up the whole neighborhood. I let it run until it got hot and let it sit over night while the battery charged back up. The next morning I put the battery back in and turned it over about 10 seconds and it fired up and smoked a little bit until it warmed up. It didn't knock or rattle at all. Pulled it out and put it in a 64Dodge and run the crap out of it for 5 more years and 1 morning I started it up and it had a distinct rod bearing rattle. So I pulled it out and put in another 66 poly318 engine I bought from a junkyard and the machime redo all the goodies, completely rebuilt that 1 and swapped them out. That engine will still start and run but the body now needs a serious amount of restoring. I run the crap out of it for 25 more years before the body got to bad to drive. Oh and that little 36 volt starter worked for another year or so before I had to replace it. I wish now I had kept that starter but they wanted a core at the parts store. Great memories. Treat those Beauties right Guys they deserve it. Oh and the 57 Lancer was too far rusted to repair so I had to take it to the recycling center.

was a dual four barrel(four why it roared/got irritably bitchy when revved up high) in the 1983 movie "Christine" unless I am seeing things(maybe I am) the "Christine" car specifically, the block was black, the heads were a copper color(or golden) and the rocker covers were chrome. never see the transmission but I believe it was chrome or silver. When Arnie was in the garage towards the end we get a pretty good shot of it from the top view of a camera into the exposed engine bay under the hood. if you refer to the stock engine it was Ford(or plymouth) orange simliar to GM's own "chevy engine red" color.(I am guessng) I am not a mech but I did take automotive vo-tech in highschool. I am doing a model kit of Christine from AMT based on shots in the movie.

I'm Australian, have had a love for Steven King novels and some of the movie conversions. Christine had been a favorite of mine since god knows when. Not realy looked into the cars but from what i read was the movie cars were 57 Belveders to look 58 and only the 58 Fury came in white with gold trim which Christine is based on. This video is such an eye opener, just the little things between the 57 & 58 i probably would not have even picked up on the suttle changes between the two. Amazing video, that you..

@@StreetFreaksGarage I want to put the body on my Dodge Magnum wagon chassis. It's got the big Hemi engine with AWD four wheel disc brakes and all the options. The body is starting to rust, It's got some electrical problems and it won't pass inspection. I've done a body swap before. A 48 Pontiac on a 77 Cutlass chassis and have a lot of trophies for it. I'm ready to try again.
