Haven't noticed anybody in the comments mentioning that Joe is soling in 5/4 and keeps his hi-hat going on 2 and 4 through most of the solo! 3:30 Check his speedy right foot on his bass drum! He would do it whith his heel down! Joe inspired me to play jazz. I met him once back in the mid-sixties at the Hollywood Bowl in Los angeles, Ca. I've always liked Joe's great brush work too. I have many of the D.B.Q. recordings and continue to listen to them often. Nice recording and photos. Thank you.

Thanks for this upload - I think I saw Adama Dramé around the mid- or late eighties and was fascinated by the richness of his play. One solo musician in the foyer of the theatre playing alone for nearly one hour and keeping our attention - a miracle.

There seems to have been a problem when this video was converted. It is playing significantly faster than it should, yielding a frantic effect. The rate of delivery for the singing in particular seems relentless and unrealistic. Setting the playback speed to .75 sounds like it is a lot closer to what the original must have been.
@mozambiquedeltambor38682 ай бұрын
ok! yes, playback speed issues can be quite common. I'm listening to it at 75% right now. The voice doesn't seem abnormally low or distorted. I am trying your suggestion & agree this is more realistic. I always thought that percussion was pretty fast too!! okay I am going to post the slower version on Facebook & eventually here, too. Thanks for your care!!

Hey Ho, Mateo. Paco Arias here. I was searching for a different Gahu Video which has the basic accompanying rhythms which I have used in the past for practicing the Boba phrases and embellishments I learned from David. This is also great. Just sayin'. Aloha, 😄 (Ever since I visited the Chef from the Mission when he was in the hospital, he has been sending me texts w Gospel messages and etc. He is Hawaiian and his frequent Aloha's" included in his texts have been rubbing off on me).
