Thanks for making this video. However, if I buy an Equinox I’ll give up my Apple Music and use a different music service. Bluetooth is okay, doesn’t give you the same options. For example I listen to a lot of podcasts and you get the skip forward 30 seconds and skip backward 15. If you are going to have this system you might as well embrace it. If you are using an app like Spotify, just an example, the system has its own Wi-Fi I so you don’t have to connect your phone. Should be better I’d imagine. You get 3 years of that and then you can either pay for the subscription or use your phone as a hotspot which may or may work well. I’ve been using CarPlay since 2014, I knew about it years before it came out. I think it works great. I wish GM had not gotten rid of it, but I wouldn’t work around this infotainment system I would make it work for me. No need to say Hey Siri if you press the button. I’ve used the Bluetooth on test drives so it’s a good way to test the infotainments system without signing into your Google account on the car. I think the point of getting rid of CarPlay is to ultimately earn more revenue from subscriptions. But having a system that gets information from you car so that it knows when you need to charge on a road trip is an advantage. That screen is so much bigger in person.

How do you put it into mapping mode? I am quite frustrated as I can find NO WHERE on the internet that shows exactly how to do this from start to finish, either on the app or on the l60 itself. Often videos show the Edit Map screen or other map screens but I have found no one to show exactly how to get there from the home screen. I can't find it anywhere on the Eufy Clean app for IOS or the Eufy website. Their help desk is an AI joke.

I plan on driving my Bolt EUV for at least ten years. I bought it new right around this time last year right. I really like CarPlay as I use Apple Music, Podcasts and Maps quite a bit. I'm wondering if I should possibly switch to Google Maps and maybe a different podcast app to get used to something different for when I do finally get a new car some day. I believe Apple's Podcasts and Music apps are native on Rivian and Tesla, so it's only a matter of time before they’re available here as well. And it would make sense for Apple Maps to come along at some point too.
@joepasquale48772 ай бұрын
I was also an Apple CarPlay user but I've learned to adjust. Apple Maps, yes, I really liked how graphic it is. I used the builtin Google Map extensively on a recent road trip (kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6Ddh4Noi5mshqM) and survived. It got me everywhere I wanted to go via voice command or typing in a location. I especially like its arrival SOC predictions. My concern with Apple Music was being able to ask, hands free, for a "station" to be played. I knew I could make selections on the phone and bluetooth them to the system but felt that would be awkward and unsafe while driving. I figured how to communicate, hands free, with SIRI. I figured that out at time tick 2:12. As for podcasts, never did that before or now but I'm sure there is an alternative. Sounds like you have years to go before you have to make the switch. Enjoy CarPlay and worry about making a transition when the time comes. Thanks for visiting the channel.

Isn't the google map system in the Equinox supposed to be able suggest stops based on it's integraton with the charge status of the car's battery?
@joepasquale48773 ай бұрын
As I mention in the description, YES, car information is integrated into Google Map. Yes, it will suggest nearby chargers. But, I have "charger anxiety" and wanted to know what was available along my route for some advance planning.
@txpackerbacker603 ай бұрын
Understood, don’t blame you. I’d love to see how well the Google maps charge planning works in the real world. The whole point of it is to eliminate the need for all the third party apps and planning. Enjoy the car- can’t wait to get mine.

I am a dedicated user of PlugShare myself, and IMHO PlugShare is far superior to Google Maps for EV trips. In fact, I believe that once you get reasonably experienced with PlugShare, you almost don’t even need to do much advanced route planning anymore. As just one example, using the filters, I have PlugShare tuned to only show me the chargers that are working right now so that I never pull up to a bad charger anymore. PlugShare has really made my EV road tripping easy, easy, easy.

@joepasquale48773 ай бұрын
Bear in mind that what is shown here is a Tesla DESTINATION charger typically seen at hotels, stores, etc. These are Level 2 (Add ~25miles/hour when connected). Most of us cannot as yet utilize Tesla SUPERCHARGERS which add 100+miles in 15 minutes. These are the kind of chargers utilized by travelers along highways.

Really? CarPlay would be a show stopper? Don't get me wrong, I miss CarPlay but I adapted. I miss Apple Maps but Google Maps gets me where I want to go. I miss the electronic rear view mirror but I'm back to the way it was for years. Every car I've ever had introduces new capabilities and removes others. Adapting is the fun in all of this... I'm curious, why? Other than one specific music app not having its own UI and instead have to either go through Siri or browsing through your phone, what other issues are there that having CarPlay is a requirement?
@joepasquale48774 ай бұрын
Really? Do I miss CarPlay? Yes but I figured out another way to access Apple Music. Do I miss Apple Maps? Yes but Google Map has gotten me where I wanted to go. I'm 77 and have owned a lot of cars over the years. Every replacement removes features and introduces others. But none have been total show stoppers. The process of adapting to a new vehicle is most of the fun. Thanks for visiting the channel...

All so GM can avoid paying Apple a pittance for CarPlay?
@mjsabie85174 ай бұрын
I don't think Apple charges anything for carplay. Its an API. The real issue is that GM wants to be able to have access to all of your data that Apple wouldn't share.

I once took apart a broken TV out of curiosity, and I could be mistaken, but I could swear that film was underneath a layer of glass, or thick plastic more likely, because God forbid they spend the extra 2 cents for the sake of quality… but old man rant aside, I was so enamored with it! I don’t understand how most things work, so something like this seems like magic to me. I’m sure I must’ve looked like some kind of genius sitting around in the front yard, playing with a big piece of plastic for an hour, but I’d wager that my neighbors are well aware of the idiot they live next to by now 😬👍
