Thank you for this. Confidence and belief in yourself will propel you in your craft. I've seen this in my own life. The minute you doubt you falter

It's wonderful when we can hear a composer speak . Greater when they state their aims and how they work . Advice for young composers ...all dat stuff. One must get university job if you want to be taken seriously if you haven't already achieved some reknown . It's intereting her say the writing process is problematic . Each note or interval suggests itself in the action of the moment's writing .If I had a plan when I started it's soon let go for something UNFORSEEN arrives and that's when every moment is electric and like she says "transformation" then can happen ...

I’ll be following her career. Arts and entertainment workplaces have to get better at policing bad behavior and bad actors

I went to his book signing and speech today in Texas City where Hannibal went to school from the age of 5-18. What a history and story he told us. All I knew I was so inspired to go home and practice and search for the truth and light this world has for us. I know if I have just one day left here on Earth I want to be good for others and find that music in my head and play it. If anyone has the chance to read his biography and collect records, see in concert do it now for sure.

My DAD was sure to differentiate ART from ENTERTAINMENT. Mr. Wuorinen is a reminder of that attitude, and I appreciate it. I'm a person, who's attempted composition, and I'm SLOW at it. It requires P A T I E N C E to compose, and I have to work hard...just to be patient, at ALL. Therefore, I RESPECT good composers, or even "mediocre" ones, if I simply LIKE their works. Mr. Wuorinen, IMO, contributed a LOT to music...especially his later instrumental works. BRAVO...R.I.P.

God bless Ben, my father-in-law, who was one of the sweetest men I have ever met. I am so much richer for having him in my life. His life was both a musical quest and a spiritual quest. And he tried his very best to meld the two into one.

His Touch recording was big fun on headphones back in 1972. I was playing this stuff in an Army barracks in Fort Ord on a basic but decent Panasonic stereo.

Absolutely amazing. How lucky we are for their dedication. When I listen to this music I feel something that I don't get from almost any other music. You are all an inspiration, as is of course, Ben Johnston.

They were both very selective about their craft, so...I think they'd agree, but it's hard to imagine that they'd never DISAGREE either.

What Wuorinen says at the end contradicts, in a beautiful way, all of the elitism of his earlier comments. It is JUST music the same as anything else. I love his music just as much as I love rock... the major shortcoming among modernists like Wuorinen is in believing their music to be ABOVE the others. Once we recognize it as just one (quite valid!) musical statement among myriad others, we can learn to love the music without compromising ourselves for the future and without becoming cynical freaks. Wuorinen's music ROCKS if you can just view it in the opposite way to which he himself largely viewed it... the same can be said of the music of Boulez, Stockhausen, Schoenberg, Ruggles, etc.

Your comments are worthy! I seem to LIKE music that I may not UNDERSTAND. And...I wouldn't be quick to say some music is "ABOVE" others'. But...I DO respect the extra WORK they put into their craft. I believe the better composers seem to discard much of their PAST works, because composing is a transitional, evolving process. Maybe that's what Wuorinen was trying to impart. R.I.P. Mr. Wuorinen.
