I climbed this as a kid in 1996. We did the rock crevice which was supposed to be closed. I was only 9 and following my older male cousins. Had no idea how dangerous.

I climbed it originally in 1995. The Chimney Tops were always open to the public, until the fire of 2016, which destabilized the ground & rocks. Though I'm sure there have always been sections of it that were supposed to be closed to the public.

@@SlonesWildernessExpeditions there was a backside trail that went to one of the chimneys. Had a chain and sign to not go that way was dangerous and deaths. Older cousins thought it would be fun to go inside a chimney.

Great video on the park. I wanna get there this summer, since ive never taken the time to check it out. I usually go to starved rock but need to find a new place to explore. I’m glad you pointed out the rock stacking. It’s amazing how many nut jobs go to the parks to create content and have no respect for the wildlife there.

We considered canceling the U.P. and going somewhere else because of the weather, but it turned out the U.P. had the least amount of rain that week, so it all worked out! Since we only had our day packs, the 11+ mile hike wasn't bad. I didn't realize just how "wild" the U.P. is!
