Impressive. I stalled out so many times today. I never could get the jeep to move. I’m going to try one more time tomorrow. Wish me luck. 🍀

just took my first test drive ever and I was looking at a manual jeep, I still have trouble smoothly getting from 0-10 but I'm solid everywhere else. any tips for not having a car to practice in?

This is really helpful! Way better than my boyfriend teaching me. Im making a sign for my back window. "5speed driver in training. If I kill it go around " We have lots of hills with stop signs. Super fun. Thanks you guys! Great job!

I LITERALLY just drove stick for the first time while listening to you both, lol I stalled about four times because I get so anxious when I’m starting off but I did it. Thanks Jeff you both helped me, ps this is my fiancé Jeep Wrangler so I’m waiting for him to come out looking for his jeep I moved the jeep up a bit lol.

I just bought a Gladiator Rubicon with a manual and I love it. I took my driving test at 16 in a Dodge truck with a 3-speed column shift so I have no problems driving a manual truck. And I saved $4000 off even in this chip-demic. I guess no one wants a manual Jeep anymore.

Just bought a 2020 manual gladiator sport today, was much cheaper than the autos, just hope this "recall" issue for the manuals doesn't happen to me

I have a Jeep Wrangler with manual transmission. It’s great! The 2nd gear has a lot of pull. He doesn’t go into details as to why driving a stick on flat ground is easier, but basically if you come to a stop light on a steep hill you have to hold the break down until the clutch grabs or you can roll into the car behind you. Also, on a hill you’ll have to give it some gas and not just let the car roll on it’s on. Even this isn’t hard once you get the hang of it.
@sjn4563 жыл бұрын
@@devbot6 More than likely if you let it roll on a steep hill it will only move a few feet and not do any damage to the car behind you. The driver will be like why they’d let the car roll and that’s about it.

Good video. To get a better feel for clutch bite point, I started my daughter on using reverse gear first - which is a lot more forgiving on stalling. Switching to forward gears became easier.

Question for any manual savvy person: Whenever I would take my foot off the clutch (while in 1st gear) in any other manual I've driven - *WITHOUT* giving it gas - the car would just stall. I notice it didn't stall on her while she did the same. Is that something unique to a Jeep transmission? For reference: I was driving manual 1988 Saab 900/Turbo and a 1991 Volvo 740. Thanks
@jeffreatmurraychrysler45463 жыл бұрын
Its all a matter of how quickly the clutch is released, and any resistance to the forward movement outside the vehicle. The Jeep Wrangler has a really easy transmission to work, and a good amount of play in that "grab zone" where as i find in imports like mazda, VW (for example) the grab point is a lore more sensitive. Also, if you're on a hill, or if there is any extra resistance outside the vehicle that would make moving forward more difficult, the vehicle will likely stall without assist from the gas pedal.

Oh boy, they should have gotten you an old Corolla but not so old that it's rear wheel drive. I was 17 with a rear wheel drive car back in 2003, and it was the stupidest thing ever the first time I drove in snow. Yeah, you've got 4WD for the really nasty stuff, but my old Wrangler still liked getting tail happy in the rain around tight turns. I hope you're in the south or something. Take it easy, dude. Really easy.

Newbies, the hardest to master is taking off from a fulll stop into 1st. Once the vehicle is in motion the other gears are much easier to shift into. I learned to drive a stick in a jeep rental while on vacation in Mexico. I never looked back. Been driving stick ever since for 30 plus years

If you want to drop from 60mph to 40mph, break without putting the clutch in. If you want to come to a complete stop, you will need to put the clutch in and keep it in, apply the foot brake, when stationary either 1) if parking, put the car in neutral, put the handbrake on, release foot brake, release clutch or 2) if stopped at lights etc, put the car in 1st, keep the clutch in, keep the foot brake on; when the lights are green, come off the foot brake, gas & biting point. It is true that in (2) above you will do more wear to the clutch (throw-out bearing, technically), really you should go to neutral and put the handbrake on as if parking, but here in the UK I expect most people select 1st and keep the clutch in (I do, even though I know it's not good for the car - it's just how I was taught - I read somewhere that in Australia if you don't shift to 1st you'll fail your test). Not stalling is a muscle-memory issue. You have to get the knack of the gas & biting-point combination. Stalling when trying to stop instead of move off is rarer I would've thought; you have to remember to put the clutch in to stop without stalling.

Just a small point. The 58” width is between the wheel wells, not the total width of cargo space which I believe is 75.5”.

Wow Marklintwo, still upset over this? What a sexist comment! One year after you posted the same retort on the official video on my dealerships channel. Let's point out that Selby did a fantastic job learning stick without grinding gears or mis-shifting. We used only one Jeep to make this video, no transmissions were harmed in the filming of this video. All vehicles on our lot are treated with the highest respect possible.
