Excellent discussion. Great panel…the delays in funding Ukraine is a war crime in my view…every bit of assets and material, good s should be given to Ukraine now, so they can weather future storms… suffering from the delays and mental anguish from all the uncertainty has been reprehensible. They deserve better and their children need comfort and real hope, a future with promise…❤

Одной из главных проблем ВСУ называется кадровая. Ряды, поредевшие из-за огромных потерь, пополняются лишь частично. Причём за счёт старых и плохо обученных новобранцев.

23:00 what is he talking about? In 1600s everyone in Ukraine concidered themselves Russian! One of the 3 varieties, belorussian vlekorussiams and malorussians. Which was entirely determined by which patriarch ruled the territories of Rus. No one called russians ukranians until the brainwashing holocaust instigated by the austrian in late 19th century in expectation of a war with Russia. Snyder is ukranian in a sense that he is just as uneducated.

Ukraine was never democracy from the beginning of it’s creation 1918 thru it’s independence until today. There where “elected” 6 presidents each one came to power as millionaires and left billionaires, Zelensky is not exception. They sold national companies, all fertile earth, all weapons arsenal; fighter jets, ships, tanks and vehicles to all war zones from 1991 till today; Yugoslavia, African and Asian conflicts. 15 millions Ukrainian citizens fled country because they where jobless poor and not protected . Ukraine has reputation as one of most corrupted country in the world. All what Ukraine won it was Eurovision song contest as sympathy because of the war. Nothing positive in Ukraine. Ukraine is not country and it has cesse to existe just like Yugoslavia or Czechoslovakia other ways we could all die just for love of Ukraine does it worth all these deaths?

Why did Ukraine not honour the Minsk Accords? To respect the Russian-speaking people in the Donbas, and other minorities? What was the reason for the LPR and DPR resisting the U.S. supported Maidan coup? Were they afraid to be left in the hands of the Ukranian Nationalists? You cannot deny the atrocities committed by the Neo-Nazi Ukranian Nationalists against the Russian-speaking people in Ukraine since the collapse of the U.S.S.R.

Thank you for emphasizing on the value of Democracy, " fighting for democracy is well worth it ", history elaborates the difficulty of maintaining democracy although it is in it's strenths that we also believe that we can defend it's ideal. Thank you for this lecture Professor Timothy Snyder.

Nice words, but as a practical matter, by summer 2023, Germany is being deindustrialized, the EU is being gutted, and Ukraine is being destroyed. I think they are being used as pawns in some larger geopolitical game.

Russia has always ached under various tyrannies. Ukraine is one country that struggles to be a democratic republic. It is an inspiration for everyone who values freedom and human agency. No matter how deep its roots may be in the institutions of any nation, democracy is NEVER guaranteed. And democracy is never valued by all people - even in nations that pridefully proclaim themselves to be “freedom loving” democracies. Democracy is alway attacked and resisted, and not only by oligarchs. One important thrust of Snider’s work is to re-emphasize the links between empire and tyranny. One way the two are entwined is how “empire” confuses (perverts) our sense of patriotism when you grow up in an imperial center (France, England, Russia, China, the US etc) If democracy fails in the US (as it may well) our “investments” in empire will be one of the causes.
