You did a really good job. Where you removed the glue, they have a wood putty product that might work well to fill that gap.

Don’t push down hard on the sander. Let the sander do the work with light pressure or it will push the dust into the paper and wood. Light pressure allows the wood dust to escape from the sandpaper and to clog it up. 😊
