WOW! I can't believe how well off it went! How many pieces did you get out in total? Do you sell them or just keep them?
@wilecatrexy4 күн бұрын
I thought, before the pots were fired, that the pots would be darker, being that the pots were smoldering wood shavings, which usually comes from pine trees. Thinking that the creosote from the shavings would penetrate the pottery. And it did, they look nice.

Thank you, might try something similar with a different donor can - I'd be worried about the zinc galvanisation burning off and forming toxic gasses. Also I would use a "rigidiser" spray (forget what it is made of, I want to say alumina) and refractory cement on any parts that would see any abrasion (floor, burner opening) to minimise any insulation fibres floating up into the air. Do you think it would be of benefit if it warmed up and cooled down more slowly - eg. use more thermal mass (refractory cement / firebricks) to hold the heat?

Yes, I do this with everything I make! then a few days/weeks/months/years later I think 🤔…that’s actually not bad! It becomes itself and you appreciate that you bothered.

Couldn't you just let the foam dry and burn off in the kiln?
@ThePotteryWheel18 күн бұрын
Once I've rinsed the foam off and let it dry, I put a layer of clear glaze on top. I guess if you aren't glazing the pot you could let the foam dry and burn off. I've never tried it.

Hi Lesley. The all looks very simple and makes sense. Your burner has a female attachment from the burner to the regulator but the ones I find tend to have a male connector from the burner so would not fit to your regulator. Where did you find your burner, or do you know where I can find other burners with the female connector?

Hi Lesley, I bought the template! Such a nice shape! 😍 Thank you for that! Question please...Do you never have problems with rim-warping after firing? Kind greetings, Caroline
@ThePotteryWheel29 күн бұрын
Hi Caroline, thanks for getting the template. I havent had problems with the rims warping after firing. I dry them very slowly, and I keep an old round container in the rim (loosely place in the rim) as the clay dries. This keeps the rim round, then they seem to fire ok. If you do put something circular in the rim as it dries, be sure to take it out and make sure it's loose regularly. Otherwise it can get stuck in the rim and the rim can split. Also, the clay you are using can make a difference. What clay are you using?
@carolinenitzl634329 күн бұрын
@@ThePotteryWheelThank you so much for your answer and some Informations! Sometimes I have less, sometimes more warping. I also let the pieces dry very slowly. I use almost Sibelco and G&S clay with 20 % grog!

Can I use other cooking oil if I don't have linseed oil? Also, does underglaze with regular oil work? Or, is it a must to use stains? Thanks
@ThePotteryWheel29 күн бұрын
You could try regular cooling oil, but I do think you have to use stains rather than underglaze.
@ChanningLee122529 күн бұрын
Would that work if I print the image on paper instead of pronto plate? Thanks

@ThePotteryWheelАй бұрын
If you are making anything that you are going to use for food or drink or to hold water you need to use pottery clay that can be fired in a kiln. You can check out some information about the different types of clay you can use here thepotterywheel.com/types-of-clay-for-pottery/
