I’m a mechanic and have been my whole life. I began at 18 busting tires. Now, when I have a really bad day, I come home and tear down my motorcycle or my Jeep. It keeps me busy and it keeps me sane. Always have something you can wrench on around

@@jayots7872 the only way you are going to get that experience is by doing it. I’m sorry I’ve been wrenching on automotive and industrial equipment mostly forklift scissor lifts boom lifts man lifts. It’s a lot of fun. Some people do it for the money but most of the good mechanics that I know they do it because they enjoy it. Most of the real good or master mechanics that I know or lead mechanics. They are the same way. Typically you get that good at it by loving doing it not doing it for the money alone. I work on everything and it transfers over to my washing machine my dishwasher, my hot water heater so when I was young, if I needed to learn electrical now, and I only knew DC electrical, I would go to somebody that I knew or I would open a book or watch a video but when we were kids, we didn’t have that we only got KZbin so many years ago when I was starting out in this industry, we had all data at Chilton’s Manuel Haynes, Manuel, and the factory service Manuel that’s all we had and it made us the mechanics that we are today

Why do diesel guys stick with those terrible log style manifolds, even on all out race motors? I understand cast is more durable, but that design is robbing a fair bit of power. I have a modified factory cast turbo manifold on my RB30 Turbo with a big external gate welded into it right at the point where it clears both sides of the twin scroll exhaust manifold. It was designed in the mid '80's and it is miles ahead in terms so design. Even that's a bottle neck that makes the motor work harder and costs power in my set up right now
@mustangdemon87Ай бұрын
Diesels and gasser engines run at much different temperatures. Try pushing your egts to 1500 degrees on a pass see if your aluminum head is still there 😂 the log style isn't terrible. If it was many more of us would make customs. But the power difference isn't worth it. Much easier ways to make more power such as changing turbo sizing, injectors, timing, nozzles etc. 12 valves also have zero electronics.
@RebeccaKenworthyАй бұрын
@mustangdemon87 I get all that, but the engines aren't as different as you think at the same time. They're STILL an air pump at the end of the day. Anything you can do to move more air equates to the ability to burn more fuel and therefore make more power- that is the part where they're very similar. I'm a 25 yrs qualified mechanic, I understand what your saying about their differences. You know, there's a company that sells high end turbo cast exhaust manifolds- Arctech or something maybe, I can't remember. They are really heavy duty units for gas application and don't suffer any of the shortcomings of a traditional style performance turbo manifold. Someone could make a fortune selling a similar product for all the commonly modified diesel engines, I reckon. I know you guys just raise the boost to make more power,l (gas turbo guys did the same thing in the 90's) but if you make the motor more efficient and THEN throw ALL the boost at it you 100% will see power increase
@davidhartnett383629 күн бұрын
@@RebeccaKenworthyI've used every manifold on both 5.9 and 6.7 Cummins platform. Steed speed, WC 2nd Gen kits, etc. on a mechanical motor(12v) the 3g kits run best. Ive seen a lot of different setups with them at sled pulls and a lot of builders prefer them. You would only need a gated setup on a 12v if you are running insane amounts of boost or nitrous.
@RebeccaKenworthy29 күн бұрын
@@davidhartnett3836 Ahhh, so there are some companies making performance cast exhaust manifolds- good to know. Cheers for the info 👍
