They have a pretty balanced midsole meaning they have medium cushioning and good responsiveness. I'm really tempted to get a pair as I'm looking for something faster and they're currently £135 in a black Friday sale. However, I currently run in a stability shoe (ASICS GT2000 12) due to pronation issues. Would it be a mistake to buy a neutral shoe like this? From someone who has put in over 400 miles in these, they are good, nice midsole which pops (requires breaking in though, around 20 miles), however one thing I hate with these shoes is the outsole. Yes it is very durable, but the XT-900 is useless in the wet/damp conditions. I've slipped over a few times and it kinda ruins the rest of your run because you just have to concentrate so much on your footing. If Saucony can make the outsole more grippy, I'd personally much prefer this over the durability. The outsole reminds me of the older outsoles used on the Nike Pegasus, hard wearing, but no grip.

It feels soooo large 😅 I dont find it to be true to size at all. Its so spacious in toebox I dont like it at all. Their laces keep sleeping off and don't grip your foot inside. I feel so unhappy after usinf Cloud 5 waterproof for years. I guess this is trail shoes and a bit different from Cloud 5 waterproof. Be aware these shoes feels way too roomy, I would recommend trying 0.5 size smaller.
@trailandkaleКүн бұрын
It’s true to size (length and width) as that roominess is intentional for the shoe design. Also, make sure you tuck the laces into the elastic loop on the top of the shoe, that stops them flapping around. TL:DR trail and road = Yes Hiking = no Sand = no way José I thought I would get away with hiking in the with lack of stability being a problem I would accept but have found the upper tears pretty easy if sticks get near it, first day I got a 3cm tear, sand also gets in shockingly easy through the upper and fills the tox box and gets gritty and hurts your toes so if you do venture on beaches or sandhills during your runs this can be pretty bad.
@trailandkaleКүн бұрын
Wow you must have been very unlucky tearing these… also, when it comes to sand - that gets into most shoes, through the upper mesh and the opening around the collars. You should get some gaiters if you do lots of sand hiking and want to keep sand out of your shoes.
@longdaysandhardworkatramra8260Күн бұрын
@@trailandkale I've got a couple tears now but its just where those holes in the upper are above the toe, the shoes are close to worn out now though so it's perfectly acceptable I think, I may even end up replacing them with another pair.

Alright you seem knowledgeable and responsive in the comment section. I tend to need a wider toe box, size 13 shoe and historically I do fit brooks well, they're kinda an ideal width for me. I bought a cheap pair of Merrells two years ago for hiking and hate them...really stuff, not a lot of cushion and going downhill my feet seem to crash into the front of the shoe. I've been debating between Brooks Cascadia found a deal for 89.99 on Amazon for the 17s but not in my size (sale cuts off at 12.5s) and also Topos like the Pursuit 2 or Ultraventure 3. My old Merrells kinda bum me out when I have to go hiking. I'm a bigger guy, some cushioning would he nice but I also like doing scrambles and more challenging hikes when I can, but not a lot of running just prefer the trail runners to bulky hiking shoes and boots. Would love recommendations and opinions.
@trailandkale12 күн бұрын
Thank you and thanks for sharing all the details-it’s super helpful! Based on what you’re looking for, both the Brooks Cascadia 17 and the Topo Pursuit 2 could be excellent options, and here’s how they compare: The Cascadia 17 is a solid choice if Brooks generally fit you well. They’re versatile trail runners with enough cushioning for long hikes and excellent stability for scrambles, thanks to their rock plate. The outsole uses TrailTack rubber, which grips really well on both wet and dry terrain-perfect for technical trails. The toe box isn’t super wide, but since you’ve found Brooks to work for you in the past, they might still feel comfortable. The Topo Pursuit 2, on the other hand, has that wider toe box you might appreciate for long hikes, plus Vibram Megagrip on the outsole, which is legendary for traction on slippery rocks and loose surfaces. They’re zero-drop, so the ride feels more natural and balanced, with plenty of cushioning to keep your feet happy all day (just be aware zero drop does take a bit of time to get used to if you're new to that). Both shoes handle traction very well, so it really comes down to what fits your feet best, ride style, and price. If Brooks widths are your sweet spot, I’d go for the Cascadia. If you want more room up front and a natural feel, the Topos might be a better match. Both shoe reviews can be found on my channel and Here's my roundup of best performing trail running shoes for reference: www.trailandkale.com/roundups/best-trail-running-shoes-buyers-guide/ Don't go for the cheap Cascadia 17 that will definitely come up too short as they have a true to size fit. Great Review! If i havent't had 2 uneven pairs of Speedgoat 5 and Fuji Lite 4, I would definately look into these Cascadia 18! I've never heard of Brooks Trail shoes to be honest ;) Ah, and the issue with the need to retighten the laces I have with the Speedgoat 5. The Solution is: After you have really thoroughlx done up your laces, you do then again from the bottom up. And then a third time. Because every time you get the soft upper to really snug your foot and THEN it is okay and don't feel loose after 20-30min. I figured that out, hat if you do the laces 3 times, they stay ok and i never have to think about them again. Tested until 1:30h, since I am not able to run longer ;)

How does the Cascadia compare to something like the Hoka Speedgoat or the Saucony Peregrine?
@trailandkale12 күн бұрын
It's certainly in the same class (all mountain trail shoes) as the SG6 - I haven't tried the peregrine yet though. The Cascadia 18 and Speedgoat 6 are both excellent trail shoes, but they have some key differences: Cascadia 18 is durable and stable with a balanced ride, great for technical terrain and versatile across various trail conditions. The TrailTack rubber outsole provides excellent traction, and it’s slightly heavier but built to last. Speedgoat 6 has slightly softer cushioning with a lighter feel, using Vibram Megagrip for superior grip on varied surfaces. It’s ideal for longer runs or hikers who prioritize softer comfort. If you need stability and durability, go for the Cascadia. For a cushioned, lightweight ride, the Speedgoat is hard to beat. Here's my SG6 review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h16WnGWrrNF9p7c -- and here's my best trail shoes roundup: www.trailandkale.com/roundups/best-trail-running-shoes-buyers-guide/ Hope that helps! -A
