I miss the old guys, the birds are a good idea but the giant yellow circle, obviously looking like a sun, still doesbt look right with the way it rotates, it would have been better as a flat texture behind the mask

If you saw the barakoas as Africans then you are the racist. They were based of a zulu folklore and aren't even representing an actual tribe. This mod existed for 9 years until someone made a racist joke and the mod creator instead of holding their ground and explaining how it wasn't actually representing any tribe at all they got gaslit into thinking the mod was actually racist. Don't get me wrong the birds are cool and well done but there is no way to defend such a bad reason behind a change even if the product presented is good. Vikings very often in media get treated the same way as the Barakoas being portrayed as brutes and overly aggressive and yet despite them being based off of real cultures instead of off pure folklore no one claims that Vikings in media are racist and outdated depiction's of northern European people despite it painting a false picture over what Vikings were actually like. Like I said early I mean this in the nicest way possible this is one of the dumbest changes I've seen in a mod when it comes to reason. The only real racists are the ones relating African tribes and Goblin tribes men together.

I get art is subjective and all, but I will NEVER understand how people saw the comical, stylized, and goblinoid designs of the barakoas as "racist". It's also baffling how little people can't recognize the clear difference between mythological inspired creatures and racial stereotypes. Like some of these people really need to be educated on racism if they think living masks posing as goblins in a tribal setting "represents" any racist stereotypes.

I understand why they were changed, I don't like the reason why though. They were clearly meant to be sentient masks, and the idea was very cool. I hate that the nostalgic mask monsters had to be removed over a controversy made by insensitive racist jerks. I'm sorry to the people who were suffering because it felt like they were being treated as wild barbarians, but please don't hold it against the people who made the mod. It was a cool idea that people who didn't look further could only see the admittently obvious surface. Kids and people of african descent don't see the original idea, they see wild tribesmen with vibrant skin attacking them. Some people made correlations that existed accidentally. Some people can't stand it and don't play the mod or call him out, which is fine. What isn't fine is other people making inappropriate jokes. The Barakoa are a product of stereotypes, but they're not made with malice. (Shoutout to Independence15, I couldn't find many of the people who were offended, and I'm glad you were so understanding.) Were the tropes there, absolutely, but Mowzie was still trying to make it seem like they weren't depictions of humans. He made their skin green, he made the mouths move when they talked, he made the ears like a goblin. An attempt was made. It failed. This is attempt 2.0, now with 80% less accidental rasicm. It was a good change made for a bad reason. Also please add sounds like the Barakoas. Their voices made them seem alive and not just creatures to kill. These are definitely an upgrade, but you took away something that made them feel like a living creature like the Pandas, not a "Pet" to shove in a corner of your base and forget like a Dog.

I prefer the sunbird design as opposed to the tribal design. Makes them stand out more and strays away from the borderline racist interpretation of the past design.

Gonna put my two cents into this discussion due to the changes in design & such. I like the new design, just feels more connected to the sun & I feel it helps further accentuate the mask spirit vibe I get from them, and the designs & such to me are genuinely amazing! I know a lot of people don't like the new design but I'm putting my own opinion in since I think it'd be nice With me saying this, I could see the Biloko possibly taking slight design inspiration from the Barakoa(not a copy paste back into the mod, just taking elements like the mask designs as they are the rivals to the Abavuthana after all, maybe it's ruined masks that they've repurposed into masks for their own tribe.) The more human-like designs would fit with the Biloko being simian-like, and just in general could be neat to see old concepts get brought back for the rival group. Either way though, while the old designs were cool, completely understand Mowzie either way, with or without context because either way, we got something cool out of a redesign! Ain't much to argue over something that in the end isn't too bad of a change because at the end of the day, they functionally are still the same.

The more calculated combat patterns of the avian like race would be amazing for a new mob in vanilla minecraft instead of the usual "charge" towards the player.

I just downloaded the old mod, ive discovered it to some Minecraft 100 days survival creator years ago when i still dont have a pc, the update is good but i dont think they dont need to remove the old suncheif, this one should be in savanna biome and the old one should be in jungle but i guess its fine
