A nice intro into the guiding light of John Henry Newman. However, he did not leave Oxford because of his teaching style or ideals. In fact, he discovered the foundational truths of the Catholic Church and it's teachings and he took the radical, yet sensible decision of conversion, and entered the Catholic church in 1845. This was all a bit too much for the Anglican hierarchy at Oxford at the time.

hi! i was just wondering if you would accept student’s who have gcse qualifications in english language, english lit and maths (which they’re going to retake and pass)? i saw on the website that it said that in order to do the course, you need a 4 in science but i have a 3..would you still accept me? i also do a level 3 extended diploma in health and social care which i already have two merits for and some distinctions in a few of my coursework but i’m also hoping to get at least one distinction in either of the two exams i will have in january. would it be possible for me to still be able to get in regardless of the science? i would like to be an english teacher and would love to be accepted onto the course 🤍.

Hiya, I just wondered if once you graduate from this course you’re automatically awarded QTS and can go straight into your first teaching job or whether you have to apply for it as a separate sort of thing once you graduate? The course looks great, just wondered as it says ‘with recommendation for QTS’ and wondered what that meant. Thanks.

Hi Evie, thank you for your message. Your course provider is the "awarding body" of your PGCE. Granting or not granting a PGCE is in their power. But QTS can only be granted by the Department for Education. All any training provider can do is "recommend". The only way the DfE can reject such a recommendation would be if they had problems with the quality of the provider or if they believed there had been fraud, etc. so, in reality, once you are "recommended", you've "passed". This is such a great and informative video! Our English teacher told us to read a summary of Newman's book rather than reading his writings itself (not a very pleasant experience for a high-school sophomore I would expect) and this video brilliantly captures his ideology. Thanks for the video (which I will definitely reference in my essay)!
