They are tough little customers. Now the only thing left to do is to wander around the back yard looking for things to cut because you just don't want to put the saw down. Consider yourself infected with yellow fever, where the only cure is to acquire more McCullochs.

I found it much easier to split about 7 inches of the hose and remove some of the sidewall so that it would fit easily through the oiler output hole and then pull it out the oil filler hole. Pulled it through and trimmed it off the split end. Pushed it back and connected it to the oil pump.

You should explain how you set that idle.
@j.k.mcclead9207Ай бұрын
Sure, Initially I gently turn in both high and low adjustment screws until seated. Then turn the low side out 1-1/2 turns, and the high, about 1 to 1-1/4 turns. Adjust the low until it idles decently and there is no lag when the trigger is pulled and adjust the high until a “growl” is heard at top RPM. Idle speed is set with the bar and chain on. Raise or lower the idle speed just south of where the clutch engages and starts to move the chain.

What a totally 💩 design! It’s absurd! Can’t believe you have to do all that just to put a carb kit in. I like restoring and getting older saws running but that’s absolutely not worth it. Good job on the video though. Very well done. 👍🏻
@j.k.mcclead9207Ай бұрын
Yes, they are the “problem child” of the McCulloch line, but as I’ve said many times, these tiny terrors punch way above their weight class. Get one running right and it will become your new favorite problem child.

Hello I have a ? On these saws, the piston ring positions, there are no ring land pins, so do you space them 45° 180° ? Thanks in advance John Sent from AOL on Android
@j.k.mcclead9207Ай бұрын
If the rings are new, I would install the ring gaps 180 degrees apart, away from the port openings, as to not risk the edges of the ring catching on the port opening. Used, as long as the gaps are not inline with each other, you should be good.

Can you tell me what the top and bottom adjustment screws are and how to adjust the saw? I have a Craftsman equivalent that I just fixed and need to know how to tune it properly.
@j.k.mcclead92072 ай бұрын
The two screws are high (H) and Low (L). The low screw ( Closest to the engine ) handles most of the heavy lifting whereas fuel flow is concerned. The high screw kicks in at full throttle, richening and adjusting the mixture so as to not “lean out” the saw thus keeping the internal combustion temperatures at a manageable level. For most saws, gently turn in both H&L until seated, the back both out 1 to 1-1/2 turns. That should put you in the “ ball park” to get it up and going.

I was given one of these a few years ago. I managed to get it started once with some spray start, but still took 20 minutes! I was using the Stihl oil though, so I wonder if that at 16:1 was not quite right for it? I noticed you said it needed some help to prime, what does that mean? We just had some wild storms here in Melbourne Australia, and I think I might need to use it
@j.k.mcclead92073 ай бұрын
@deepgravity most modern synthetic oils far surpass what was available at the time of the Saws manufacturing. Initially, I use a 30:1 ratio to get them going, then, 40:1 after that. The "help priming" is simply squirting fuel down the throat of the carb during the initial start up to help pull the fuel through a completely dry system.

Hi J.K, you inspired me into taking my McCulloch Pro Max 510 that has been sitting in my shed for the last 20 years and get to work on it. I am more of a handy man in my spare time, but recently took my retirement. So, I had all the time that I needed. I spent a little more than a day disassembling it in pieces, cleaned it, and changed the spark plug. It was not easy to reassemble it just like your video showed. After several cranks, it started! What an amazing feeling it is. Thanks again for your well explained video, it was very inspiring.

I found that all Zama M7 carb models run the best. The MDC carbs are a complete nightmare to get working correctly. . Quote me if I'm wrong, I think the 110 is a 2.1 34 CC , some models can be one or the other, can you clarify Which models have the bigger motor and how I can tell? Thanks for all your help absolute best channel for Mini Macs!

When it comes to Mini Macs your videos on by far the best I've never seen, you know these things inside out. I have 12 of these from 25 all the way to Modern versions. And you helped me fix almost all of them, they were a pain in the ass compared to any other vintage saw. I've had about 200 chainsaws and as much as I hate these things I love them at the same time. So I kept a couple for myself. I learned that the modern ignition with the Zama M7 are the most reliable. Thank you so much you're a good soul!

I don’t have a video dedicated to carb adjustments, but for most carbs : gently turn in both the high and low until seated, then turn the low side out 1-1/2 turns. The high side 1-1/4 turns. That should put you in the “pall park”.

I just followed your video. Changed out the carb. Was a 100% sure about the placement of the gaskets and the spacers and mine were pretty rotten. Long story short. It starts up revs twice and turns off. Any thoughts?
@j.k.mcclead92074 ай бұрын
Sounds like its starving. Try setting the low and high screws. Gently screw both in until seated, turn both out 1-1/2 turns. For most saws it's a good starting point. Next is a bit more involved. Check the fuel line for kinks, and then check the needle/arm height. It may be set too low. It may take 4 -5 tries to get it to prime properly.

You’re absolutely right. During the making of this video, I was going through some heavy duty chemo and barely had the strength to walk across the garage without needing a nap half way through. Resurrecting the saw was a cathartic effort to stave off the stir craziness and keep my mind focused. Video, audio, production quality and my voice were all sub par. The question is, did you glean any useful tidbits of information from the video despite the poor quality? If so, then it was worth the effort.

Hey so on the mini macs are all the parts somewhat interchangable. Becuase i have a 25, 30, 35, 110, 120, and a angry beaver 2.0. My goal is to get the 25(its my dads first chainsaw and my first mini), 120, and the angry beaver working realible. If i cant get them all running.
@j.k.mcclead92076 ай бұрын
There are some minor differences between the models. The 25 & 30 are 1.9ci. The 35 on up are 2.0ci. The clutches on the mini 25, 30 & 35 are spin on type and the 110 on up are held on with a left handed nut. Carbs, coils and all other parts are interchangeable

Can you tell me what were you checking with the gauge attached to the fuel inlet fitting? Was it vacuum or pressure of 10 on the gauge ? Thanks
@j.k.mcclead92076 ай бұрын
Pressure. In order to know if the needle is properly seated and that the carb itself is sealed completely, about 10lbs of pressure is pumped into the fuel inlet. If pressure is maintained for more than 10 minutes with minimal loss, then it should be good.
