Sissi, I loved this video for so many reasons!! I had not seen it . . . .and it really caught the feeling of being on the sea, in Glacier Bay, catching halibut, and being with you, Gunter, and Stefan!

Awesome video. I grew up longlining with my parents out of homer and fished all over the Gulf of alaska through my 20’s on bigger boats. Some of the best memories I have. Absolutely made a man out of me. I can’t imagine how I would have turned out without those experiences. Thanks for sharing your experiences I wish I would have taken more videos and pictures.

I think i just threw up watching them toss that giant head over without cutting the cheeks off..... very disappointing
@ketasissi4 жыл бұрын
From big fish like that the cheeks are stringy. Now go clean up your mess.
@AgentStang4 жыл бұрын
@@ketasissi lmao what mess? I would eat those cheeks all day, you don't have to tell me how those cheeks taste, I'm native and I would not waste something like that booo

@@AgentStang what mess? You said you threw up....
@PozoBlue4 жыл бұрын
Just a question. I know they measure them to see if big enough, if not they throw them back. But what is the point of throwing them back if you've already rammed that giant hook in the head to pull them on board? Wouldn't they just die anyway?
@ketasissi4 жыл бұрын
By measuring them we can determine the weight. We have a individual quota and need to know how close we are to the limit. Going over the limit is a no-no and will be punished.
@ketasissi4 жыл бұрын
And no, we don't " ram a giant hook in their head".

Great to see fisherman doing good, we also fish halibut here in Nova Scotia. Instead of a drum, we use tub trawls. Good luck in the future.
@ketasissi7 жыл бұрын
Lobster wars thanks. Trawls are not legal in SE Alaska, too distructive for the bottom.
@lobsterwars62317 жыл бұрын
Elisabeth Babich We use longlines just like you except instead of a drum, we coil the lines in tubs, dragging is not legal here in the Gulf of St. Lawrence either since the cod moratorium. Here we call longlines trawls for some reason.

At 3.40 this dude is throwing away stuff that could be kept and frozen to feed polar bears that don't have enough food in certain parts of antartica,it would be a good idea to take care of that,also Halibut roe is fantastic when smoked.........especially those large females,that should be released in the first place....!!!!those fucks catch everything,no matter what..!!!!
