Just read on Wikipedia that Frank Sinatra conducted compositions for Alec Wilder, so I definitely wanted to hear what this sounded like lol. It's good!

What octet is this? I thought I had listened all the octets he wrote, but I can't recognize this one.

JOHANN DAVID HEINICHEN {KRAUSCHWITZ 1683-1729 DRESDE } BAROCKBAND. Sublime merci.

How can I order the sheet music for this arrangement? I'd order the original, but imagine it will be easier to find a lone pianist to accompany me as opposed to a string orchestra! Nicely done!
Thank you! I would like that! I'll send you an email!

Very nice presentation, but I'll stick to the ancient 1940's vintage recording by Mitch Miller/Frank Sinatra which was not marred by those occasional rubatos you get here.

Right on! There is a Wilder World website that has tons of his music. However KZbin has some that dedicated Wilder site does not!

Thanks for all you Wilder music! Can you download or did you already download LPs of his music in various separate tracks? Thanks for sharing. He was at his best with oboe, brass and strings. He wrote music for the movie, "The Sand Castle," excerpts of which are on the Wilder World web site in a narrated program. Great stuff!

Wish someone would download Wilder's music from "The Sand Castle." I have only a scratchy vinyl of it.

I still have the vinyl I bought a long time ago and also bought the CD they issued of it a few years ago. I treasure both my copies. A friend of mine also has the 78 rpm album which was the way it was originally issued by Columbia. Alec Wilder has written some wonderful things through the years and it's nice that you posted this so more people can become familiar with his music.

The LP album, of which I have the original release had the selections in their proper order, with this Theme and Variations as the last of the six and the Air for Oboe at the very beginning. It was re-released several years alter with the first and last movements reversed in order, to questionable purpose.
