For anyone drawn to this KZbin via Alana Yorke's Wichita Years song, or Alan Glasco's shared footage. If you are interested in a story about Alana, and how finally producing this lbum intersected with her own life please check out Alana's Anthem, CBC Radio, program name is Atlantic voice.

I was a child of just 10 when this disaster happened. I had just crossed from my yard to my best friends back patio and knocked on his back door ready to play. I just stepped into their house and was inquiring what he was doing. He had his coloring books and crayon on the floor. The I hear a great thud. We step outside and I can see the first of black smoke rising into the sky. I didn’t really know what happened till later that morning when we heard the news. For a frame of reference I lived at 34th and Amidon and the crash site is probably about 5 miles away at 21st and Piatt. It’s tragic that the monetary settlements were pathetic low. It’s so true things were pretty sad at that time. Civil rights marches and riots were playing our country. The Vietnam war was going on and nobody wanted that. Just few years prior our President had been assassinated on damn national TV. Things got even worse in the decade with Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King being assassinated too. The Kent State killings and Democrat national convention riots adding to the nations troubles. Turbulent times for our nation, I can see why this tragedy was so easily over looked. I pray that our nation can heal and find peace with all the things plaguing her.

FRANK O' HARA is very underacknowledged STILL in 2023. Ginny is overappreciated ...in my not so humble of an opinion. And I took an autograph to my 1st name in the street when he 1st read HOWL in my home country :" To S Allen Ginsberg, Helsinki, Jan 7th 1983" Got it still, just a piece of stationary, his books were rare in here near the iron curtain wayback 🇫🇮

What a sad and tragic event. This is my first time hearing about this story and I’ve lived in Wichita twice. Thankful for those who have created memories in the community to help families know the history that was almost forgotten. Thank God for comfort and I’m blessed to know He never forgets us, and knows and cares about such horrific moments.

I lived at 2101 North Minnesota. I saw the plane fall. I also found Mrs.House's Bible in her yard. My heart still hurts for the people we lost. It hurts now more for the settlement their families received. But that's the story of a Black life uh? Shame on the Air Force and Attorneys involved who thought Black lives so worthless. You all should pray it never be your love ones and you fall prey to such as yourselves.

The Wichita vortex. I've said since I was old enough to know, that Wichita is a black hole for people that don't fit in. And that was before I knew anything about Ginsburg and company Lived here all my life. Will live here for the rest, because I didn't escape the vortex.

I left for 9 years. And some how find myself back. I think there is a puzzle piece of Indigenous culture that is needed to be added , and reminded of. As being a Native female born in Wichita

I had the opportunity to play with him. He came to my church twice actually and my band with me on organ had the pleasure of backing him up on a couple of gospel songs he wrote. Great musician and person. R.I.P.

Being a student in the school of "you learn something new everyday" this is today's lesson because for the life of me, I can't recall ever reading or hearing about this tragedy. The Wichita tornado, yes. But this crash, no. May those souls that made their transition that morning reside in a peaceful place🌌♥️.

I’m glad that this incident is being brought to light after so many years. I lost an aunt and a cousin in this crash. I just wish that somewhere in this story they would have listed the 23 residents who lost their lives that day. It would have also been nice if a brief description and photo of each victim would have been shown in this documentary. The fact that they only showed the airmen makes the others lives seem less important all over again.

Fantastic interview of a genuinely nice and good person. I remember when Mr. Teller debuted at then-KTVH and when he helped the station become The Look of a Leader in a market where all 3 of the main stations had incredibly talented meteorologists. Enjoy retirement!

I was only eight-years old when this happened. Fortunately some years earlier, my mother, a proud Hispanic woman hated being told where to live by the Wichita restricted neighborhood ordnance and talked my father into leaving for Texas. Our old rental home was one of the lots destroyed in the Piatt Street Disaster.

I my end up going to prison I hope I die it's better than being falsely accused by corrupted government because I got falsely accused of a crime I didn't do because Sedgwick County Police Department WPD wrote a false report and refused to write my side of the statement when I got jumped walk to the gas station and the public defender refuse to get the surveillance evidence to prove I was innocent because the county made to plead with him agreement and now he's in charge of training officers in Hutchinson and got away with holding evidence in the court of law and writing a false report in tampering with surveillance evidence in Kansas the dOC court system

Is it possible the slats were not extended for takeoff? There have been many similar crashes due to this. Regardless, I'm surprised I had never heard about this tragedy. I cannot imagine the horror experienced by all involved.

I've just come here from a Gander lake crash doc and there are striking parallels with that one. Coincidentally, I'd never heard of either. (Both involved the military).

Remember in 1959 the World famous Clutter murders in Kansas were the center of focus for the early 60s especially with the release In NYC of Truman Capotes bestseller In Cold Blood. How this influenced nut job Ginsberg is anyone’s guess but the fanfare Truman enjoyed in NYC for his riveting account of small town America in Kansas is probably a good start.
