This was a great game that I never got very far into. Mainly, I never knew how to use the other modules that I found. I knew how to plug them in and turn them on, but I never knew what most of them did, or which weapons would be more effective against which foes. I had the C64 version, which ran a little more choppy than this, but was very playable. I wish I could find a version fixed for the SuperCPU, so that the 3D would run faster and smoother, without making everything faster as well.
@erifellen2 ай бұрын
The way extra modules are handled is definitely one thing I would change about the game if I could. Maybe something more like how Diablo works, where identifying an item gives you essentially complete information on it and you can easily recheck the details whenever you want.

I love the monitors above the window/cockpit canopy. One of my favorite Microprose games, F 15 Strike Eagle, would be great with fractals used the ground terrain. Would be a great home-brew project.

The Eidolon, Rescue on Fractalus, & Koronis Rift use fractal computation algorithms to produce realistic landscapes. Pretty impressive coding for the early 1980s!

Very impressive game. Shows how much more the 5200 was capable of than slightly enhanced 2600 games with an ugly palette. Recently been trying to get this system up and running but been having issues with Atari800. A lot of titles load an Atari logo then crash 😢
@Mrshoujo2 ай бұрын
That's because the 5200 was a stripped down Atari 400 computer. The OS is different. You can't load Atari 8-bit computer games on it while patched 5200 games will work on the Atari 8-bit computer! Just look for "Glenn the 5200 Man." The 5200 loads only cartridge ROMs. Use Altirra for the computer games. Try a different Atari 5200 emulator. Please remember not to refer to the Atari 400 / 800 / XL / XE computer line as a "5200."

Get Altirra instead. Much more capable and stable emulator.

Atari800Win's 5200 emulation seems completely broken. I've never gotten it to play a single title, and I've tried a bunch of different versions of it.

I'm pretty sure these are the two heart pieces you are missing: 1. Shovel mini-game. 2. In the Lost Woods in the light world, you go West of the little hut and South through a log tunnel.
@erifellen2 ай бұрын
Dig game sounds likely, and after checking the woods just now, that's the other one, so I think that accounts for everything!

I remember this game as a kid. Looking back it's kind of funny how this game was clearly a Zelda ripoff, meanwhile the original Legend of Zelda was intended to be about a Christian warrior before Nintendo said that they didn't want explicitly religious themes in their games and they had to make up a fake religion for the Zelda universe instead.

I think when there's a Gold Ball in play with only one chance to get the line, that is worth doing the "Chence" for simply cus of the Gold ball. Just my opinion tho.

Have you ever wondered where the names Byrna and Somaria came from for the canes? Until Ocarina of Time came out, I always assumed that they were two of the seven sages.

I had just read about Thievery UT's existence and searched KZbin for a video about it, which gives and overview about it. What can I say, this video of yours was exactly what I was looking for. I didn't answer all things I was wondering about, but it came close. Great work & I also like the detailed video descriptions you write down (additionally they should mention the system a game is available for and the specs you play on like real hardware, emulation, etc..). Cheers!

This game was fun at the time, but did feel repetitive even back then. Still looks very good. The game was supposed to be a movie tie-in, but became a sequel to the 1979 "killer app" instead. In 1983, an Atari 2600 game showed a player gliding over a planet with slightly rounded edges. I am more surprised that, by 1985, an Atari 800 game couldn't do the same... ...the 800 line started in 1979, and the nulk of games do work in 16kb or 48kb maximum for backward compatibility. A few games demanded the XL ot XE series due to maximum RAM amount, if not the better features of the GTIA graphics chip over the original CTIA. This might explain along eith rushed development some bugs or limitations that could not be addressed. But being a sirect Atari game and not a third party port, this game definitely had some more care into the graphics than others. I love "Panther", but the 800 line could easily have a complex dash panel along with the scrolling viewport playfield. Again it may have been rushed and was a port so they just made it work and focused on gameplay and music instead.

how does one compile the game included in the link in the description? i spontaneously remembered this game 20 years later and racked my brain trying to find it. your playthrough vids are the closest i've gotten
@erifellen7 ай бұрын
Ah, right! I forgot to mention the downloads on the verge-rpg archive don't seem to be configured correctly, and tend to display the raw file contents. Right-click the download link, choose "Save Link As", put a ".zip" extension on the file name, and then it should work like any other compressed file.
@mobilisq7 ай бұрын
thank you! now my next question: how did you get it to run? it fails for me supposedly because it can't find a "system" font file, and anything i've tried downloading from the web registers as the "incorrect version" which is followed by a game crash. any interest in uploading yours somewhere?
@erifellen7 ай бұрын
I'm afraid I can't help with that. The only thing I had to do to get the download it working the same as what I already have is running the config to set it to windowed and 2XSAI. Maybe compatibility mode would help?
@mobilisq7 ай бұрын
interesting. compatibility mode does nothing, still leads to a crash a few seconds after opening. what version of windows were you running this on?
